A recruit was pronounced dead at Beaufort Memorial Hospital Saturday after falling out of the 1.5-mile run that was part of his initial strength test at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., according to a Corps release.
Adam Aube, 18, of Brunswick, Maine, had been at the depot for a week at the time of his death, according to depot spokesman Maj. Billy Canedo. The run was the final event of the initial strength test and the last task recruits must complete before they begin training.
Medical personnel on hand rushed to Aube’s aid when he became unable to continue the run, according to Canedo. It is unclear whether Aube stopped, slowed down or passed out.
“He had a high temperature, 103.4 degrees,” Canedo said.
Canedo said Aube was taken to “the cool room” at the depot’s branch medical clinic “and then subsequently evacuated to the hospital,” where an autopsy has not yet determined the cause of his death there.
Staff Sgt. Kenneth Tinnin, spokesman for the recruiting station in Portsmouth, N.H., where Aube enlisted, said the Marines there are “deeply saddened and shocked” by Aube’s death.
“The Marine Corps considers all Marines, from those just starting their training … to those who have served many years, family,” he said. “The Marines of RS Portsmouth, from Adam’s recruiter to the commanding officer, will support the Aube family through this most difficult time.”

Dear Lord accept Adam into your devine kingdom, as you and you along know the reason he was called so young. Thank you for the warrior heart you bestowed upon him and his answer to his Nation's call. Comfort his family in this time of loss, help them to grieve and honor all that Adam has given. Walk with them through the valley of death and keep them strong. May angel wings carry you home Adam and know that the fallen warriors who have gone before welcome you to a greater mission. Amen MY heart and prayers go out to the family of this young warrior - I raised children in Brunswick and pray the community will support you in this time of loss. If there is any comfort I can offer hesitate not to ask as I am a Gold Star wife and understand the incredible pain you are feeling and know that sharing the journey can be helpful. Nancy-coyote |

My family and I send our deepest condolences to the Aube family and friends. Being called home at such a young age is always difficult to understand and accept. Know that your son now resides in a peace filled place and no longer knows pain and suffering. He will be waiting there for us with our brothers and sisters who were also called home too soon.

We had 7 rides and 1 cage come to honor this young hero. As we stood there we could not help to notice all the young folks coming to pay their respects. I is so hard to understand why this young man was talked so soon to be with our lord. May god help the family to find memories of his life to get them through these next few months.
Thank you again Adam for your love of our country. |
