Not sure why this casualty is listed as from Almeda, CA when she is in fact from Waukesha, WI. Anyone check into this to see if maybe her location is a typo in the original DOD news release? Just curious.

This might clear things up.  Our San Francisco Chronicle here in the SF Bay Area states this:

"The couple own a home on Taylor Avenue in Alameda and also have lived in an apartment in Waukesha, Wis., where Hvolboll was staying Monday, Stevenson [her cousin in Texas] said. "

Request that someone in WI get word to the RC for the Waukesha area to bounce me an email with contact info - so that we may coordinate ahead of time if there ends up being a local service there. (NOTE: I am not saying that one is planned in WI at this time)

As of now, services are intended to be in CA - though this is subject to change at this time.

Thanks.

Some of these threads are real slow at posting. I posted my question about being from CA on the evening of 9/11/06 and it says it was posted at 8:42 a.m. on 9/12/06. Do these threads go through a check of any kind before they are posted?

Thank you for your service in many facets. The Houston Chronicle has an article about her being the first female firefighter in Bryan, TX over 25 years ago. It went on to quote collegues saying she was an inspirational person to be around. She gained the respect of her male co-workers and displayed determination in the job. Mission complete. Well done.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Sgt. 1st Class Merideth L. Howard.  I just watched a video interview she gave a few months ago on CNN.

A sad loss of such a great Hero.

It's not neccessarily the conditions you ride in, but how much you've prepared yourself to ride safely in them that will make a difference.

Keep the rubber side down!

Stand Down. The family will hold services in TX and CA later in 2007 (currently planning for Dec of next year). It is the current intent of the family to invite PGR, at a later time, when final arrangements are finalized, next year.

When I signed on to the internet today, Sgt. Howard's story was a "news" item on AOL, stating that she was from Waukesha. AOL's story also mentioned other women over age 40 who had sacrificed their lives in the war on terror, and they were running a poll on whether older reservists should even be called up. I thank Sgt. Merideth L. Howard for her service and sacrifice in answering that call, and express my condolences to her family and friends.

Sgt. Howard is the same age as me - I had considered joining the service out of high school (near end of Vietnam War), and often wish I had had the guts then to join in spite of the opposition of family and friends....it would have been an honor to serve with women like Sgt. Howard.
