| WWII Army Veteran, Charles Harward, Bloomfield, Iowa. September 12th, 10:30 am.
The family of Charles Harward has requested PGR support in honoring this WWII Hero. Mr. Harward is a veteran of the Pacific Theater and was the friend of Tom Croft (see the thread Honoring a Living WWII Hero) also of Floris, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at Wagler’s Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa on Tuesday, Sept 12th at 10:30am. Bloomfield is located approx 20 miles south of Ottumwa, IA along US 63.
Due to the extreme short notice on this mission, the PGR will stand a simple Flag Line in front of the funeral home during the services.
Please try to take a few minutes to Honor this Hero who helped protect us from Japanese aggression so long ago.
More details will be posted as they become available.

My condolences to the Harward family May we somehow lessen your sorrow.
I was hatched and raised in Bloomfield, IA. So I know it pretty well. I have a suggestion I will be at Keith’s IGA food store and gas station, at a little before 10:00 There we can fill up on fuel if needed. And de-water so we don’t disturb the family at the funeral home. Keith’s is on the N.E. corner of US 63 & E. Locust St. That is one block North of the Town Square on US 63 about 4 blocks from the funeral home.
See you there

Rest easy Charles. My father is also a WWII vet and I much would have liked to get there; unfortunately, it was too short notice for me to get away. There are few of these heroes left and our generation is allowing the memories of the deeds of these men to fade. Those of you that can make it, will help those memories to live on. God bless... take care and Thank you Charles Harward for your service and dedication. dc sends |

Sorry for the delayed ride report. This was submitted to me last week and I have been swamped with SC and RC duties.
Thanks for all you do Bear!
First and foremost we offer our sincere condolences to the family of Charles Harward. I would like to thank the family of Mr. Harward for allowing us to honor Charles or “Chuck” as they referred to him. This hero had a large group of family and friends that will surely miss him. Bob and I arrived at the funeral home. A local LEO stopped when he saw the PGR banner on my windshield. While we spoke with him, Kim & his wife pulled in on their bikes. Sorry Kim but I don’t remember your wife’s name. We now had four riders present. My sister-in-law Jane was called and asked to bring her flag. So now we were five with three flags. Folks, my hat is off to you! We were small in numbers but large in spirit, honor & respect in true PGR fashion. Kim that was a nice of you to help the elderly lady down the stairs. Originally, this mission only planned for a simple line of flags due to the extremely short notice. Bob and I had to pass the cemetery anyway on our way home. Kim and his wife said they had planned on going as well. The funeral director told us he had never had motorcycles escort him before, so I asked him to please not run over us. With the 4 bikes we formed sort of a diamond pattern 1 in front 2 staggered in the middle and one in the rear. It made it look like we had more bikes than we really had. Family members came up, shook our hands and thanked us for what we did with such short notice. They said that they knew Chuck was smiling upon us and glad we were there. Thanks Bob, Jane, Kim & wife. Great job. We were small in numbers, but large in spirit. Thank you to the Harward family for allowing us to honor this Hero. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Bear
