Attention All Hands.....

We have a last minute request from a wife of a Marine heading for Iraq.....

The Following is her email:

My husband is an active-duty Marine stationed at 29 Palms, California.  His unit, VMU-1,  is leaving for Iraq Sunday, September 10.  A friend of mine in San Diego, whose husband has ridden in several Patriot rides, has suggested I contact your group to see if anyone is interested in riding to show your support when his unit leaves for its 4th deployment to Iraq.  (This will be the 3rd deployment for my husband and many of his fellow Marines.)

His unit of about 150 Marines will be assembling at their squadron on the Marine base at 29 Palms at 9:30 a.m Sunday.  They are being bussed to March Air Force Base.  They will probably be leaving the base in 29 Palms about 11:30; they are supposed to arrive at March no later than 1 p.m.

I know this is short notice, but thought I would see if this is of interest to you and your riders.

Tami Roleff

Anyone interested in making this ride respond now....

My contact information is as follows:

email:   ejcarrillo2002@yahoo.com

or post here.

I am working on rally point(s) and times, I need a head count....

You will need same safety gear as on the escort to Camp Pendleton to get on base....

That is all......

Spoke with Tami, her husband is the XO of this unit and he has no idea of the pending escort...

The troops are scheduled to board the buses at 0930 hours and proceed to the armory to get their weapons and then back on the buses and onto MARB approximately 1100 to 1130 hours....

My ride plan is to arrive at 0930 hours...

The rally point is at the Farmhouse in Banning....

6249 W 5th St, Banning, CA 92220, I-10 FWY East exit Highland Springs Ave....

At end of exit turn left, under FWY to first signal 5th St, turn right, proceed approximately 75 yards, Farmhouse on your left....

There is food, head facilities(latrines for the Army folk) and fuel at this rally point....

The ride up to 29 Palms is estimated at 70 miles from rally point, I will make a fuel stop prior to entering the base....

The ride to MARB is estimated at 93 miles....

I am estimating the ride up to 29 Palms from rally point to be about 1 hour and 45 minutes or less.....

Be sure you have the appropriate gear to ride on base....

KSU AT 0745.....

That is all.........

Sparks - I can meet you at the rally point for KSU at 7:45.  It's the least I can do since my wife is the friend that Tami Roloff is referring to.
Good to hear that a latrine is available for this Air Force veteran.

Kirby,

I can meet you at 6:10 @ Archibald & 210 Frwy at the Stater Bros. Parking lot.
Exit Archibald and turn south and make an imediate left into the parking lot.
Sierra and the 210 are 10 minutes east of me.
That will give us plenty of time to meet up with Sparks & Jerry.

FYI:  Saturday at 4pm on the corner of Highland/Riverside Ave, Highland Eastbound was closed due to construction.
The detour was continue south on Riverside Ave to East on Baseline Ave and North on California to Highland.

Not sure if this will be the case today as well.
