INVITATION

This serves as an invitation to the G-126th Aviation Unit, returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom on September 8th at 1:30 p.m. The unit is scheduled to return to the Army Aviation Support Facility in Hangar C, 92 Hayes Street, Bangor.

G-126th Aviation Unit’s mission was to provide aviation intermediate maintenance and logistical support to UH-60 Blackhawk aircraft in Northern Iraq. The 126th Aviation Unit joined other units from Alaska, Connecticut and Puerto Rico, creating a task force which supported the 101st Air Assault Division, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Stryker Brigade, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the Iraqi Army.

G-126th Aviation Unit was stationed at Forward Operating Base Q-West, Mosul and Forward Operating Base Sykes, Tal Afar for 12 months. The unit played an indispensable role in stabilizing Tal Afar from insurgent activity

Tal Afar is a city of more than 200,000 residents. It has dozens of tribes of different ethnicity and religions. Due to its strategic location, Tal Afar was a key base of operations for al-Qaida. During the unit’s deployment, Iraqi Army and coalition forces restored order to the city. Voter registration increased to about 204,000, and more than 175,000 voted in each election - more than 85 percent of the eligible voters in Western Nineva province.

This event is open to the public and all media is welcome.

08 Sep 2006 10:27 AM Alert
Hi Everyone,

Due to such short notice we were not able to get a ride captain in place, so play this one like we normally do when troops come in late at night at any ariport. Just remember you are going on a military base.

Myself and several other members are going to be heading south for the honor mission in Lee, NH. So thank you for stepping up and supporting our troops.

See you all soon,
Christine
