Regretfully, it looks like I won't be making the ride for this mission. My wife's foot is not yet healed (her doctor can't even figure out why it hurts so bad), and she will need my help here at home. I will be at the South County Mall staging location in the morning, at least briefly, to pass on some flags for use by the PGR in Illinois. My thoughts and prayers will be with the family and friends of Cpl. Shank throughout the day.

For all of those riding for Cpl. Shank: ride safely; ride proudly; ride with respect. Bring big flags and give honor in a big way.

It's looking like my chances of making this mission are bleak as well. My team is due to usher at church, and I can't get in touch with the rest of them to see if they will all be there to cover for me. If I can't contact them in the morning, I'll have to be there instead. Regardless, Cpl. Shank, his family, and the PGR who will be making this ride will all be in my prayers. Please ride safe!

To My PGR Brothers and Sisters,
Thank You!  Thank You, for honoring our young hero. Thank You, for being there for his Family.
Words cannot express the sadness I feel for Jeremys family, but knowing you were there to helps ease the pain. My sister and her family were there, proudly standing shoulder to shoulder with you all. She was witness to the greatest people in the world showing respect and honoring our hero. She could not hold back her tears on the phone about great you all really are! She conved that the support she saw was Awesome and that she never felt more proud to be an American.
Again My Brothers and Sisters,  Thank You. As you have shown your support in my hometown, I will show my support and honor another young hero in Omaha tomorrow. God Bless you all!

Thank you everyone.  What a spectacular showing by the Patriot Guard.  The Shank family and the Jackson community were well served by our presence.  Thanks to Roger and Marlene, Boo Parker and brother Brad.  More thanks to the folks that brought pickups teaming with flags, water and ice.  We appreciate the presence of the Viet Nam Veterans M/C, the Wingers and all of you who made up the nearly 200 bikes that came to honor and respect Cpl. Jeremy Shanks.  From the moment we left to get the Corporal in St. Louis until his journey ended (or began) today, we did what we said we would do.  We kept our promise.  And for that I thank each and every one of you.  I will drop a few more notes over the next couple days trying to mention everyone that contributed to our Mission Accomplished.  Thanks again.  Hope everyone had a safe ride home.

Our sincere gratitude to the Shank family and friends for allowing us to ride in honor and respect for Cpl. Jeremy Shank.  Please know that your pain and sorrow is our pain and sorrow.  We hope we helped to lighten the burden you carried with you this day.

Our thanks to an incredible group of riders who once again have gone above and beyond.  We appreciate every moment of your time and every tear and prayer that you gave in support of this fine family.

Thank you to the American Legions and V.F.W.'s in both Jackson and Cape Girardeau.  We asked and got more than we hoped for.  Your generosity and care of the PGR's helped make our day easier.

The following link is for pictures that we took today - just a small testament to the fact that by our numbers we show that these service men and women will not be forgotten.

P.S.  Many of you asked about S/Sgt Michael Deason, Farmington MO mission pictures.  Mark your calendars to check his mission in the Archives on Sept. 25 - I may have something posted by then at the latest.

Marlene & Roger, thanks so much for posting those photos. Since I was unable to attend Sunday, I thought about the PGR and the family all day, wondering if you were in the rain we were having, and how everything went, and if my friends who rode down had a safe trip. Your photos made me feel like I was there. Thank you!

I got soaked all the way home.  Wet roads and the occasional downpour kept me on my toes the entire ride.  But every time I thought about being cold or wet , Cpl Shank and his family's sacrifice put everything into perspective.  It was worth every minute, every raindrop on my windshield, and every gale of cool wind up my sleeve for my 4-hour ride home.  I will remember this mission forever.  Thank you for letting me be a part of it.  Thank you for letting me ride up and slip in behind the other bikes and join in the almost 200-bike procession.  Thank you for letting me stand with a flagpole in my hand, there beside the many others who rode just as far, and maybe farther, from many different directions to honor this Fallen Hero.

I've been on a lot of rides with a lot of different groups.  I've never felt so welcomed and such a part of something as I did yesterday.  Every time I ride in, someone comes to me and speaks to me and I feel like I belong to something important.

Greg and Maria, thank you for letting me tag along with you and hang out with you.  It was TRULY a pleasure to meet you.  I hope we catch up again in the future.  Thanks to all the folks who spoke to me and welcomed me.

Thank you to Cpl Shank and his family.  You will never be forgotten.

==============================

When a mans heart is full of deceit it burns up, dies and a dark shadow falls over his soul. From the ashes of a once great man has risen a curse, a wrong that must be righted. We look to the skies for a vindicator, someone to strike fear into the black hearts of the same men who created him. The battle between good and evil has begun. Against an army of shadows comes the Dark Warrior, the purveyor of good, with a voice of silence and a mission of justice. - Steve "Sting" Borden

Just wanted to share with you all something that was shared with me from a friend who lives in the town

I went to town today for the funeral procession of one of our local
soldiers. I didn't know what to expect but I had heard about the other
towns
where the community had turned out to honor someone they didn't know. I
am
proud to say our little town of Jackson, Missouri was no different. The
streets were lined with people waiting for the funeral to go by. There
were
tiny toddlers in sundresses, old men with walkers, good ole boys
wearing POW
patches, old ladies with their little dogs on leashes. There hadn't
been
any announcement that people should come or that they were even wanted
but
they came.

They were just there standing, sitting, holding flags and waiting. It
was
hot and cloudy and threatening to rain but still more people arrived to
wait. You could even tell some were just driving along and stopped to
find
out what everyone was doing and they stayed too. We waited.

We were on a four lane highway in town and the traffic rolled thru some
honking and waving more like the air of a parade or party. That stopped
as
soon as the first of the funeral procession came into sight. Then it
got so
quiet you could hear the birds and the wind that was steadily picking
up. It
was eerie, but no one talked they just stood quietly for the family of
this
fallen soldier.

The motorcycle group Patriot Guard Riders led the procession and there
were
probably 100 bikes there leading the way rolling by 2 by 2 to the
cemetary.
Then the police escort followed by the hearst and the family and
friends.
The cars stretched on and on. I have never seen so many cars at a
funeral
before.

By now the wind was really blowing and the rain had started but not one
soul
left their spots while the funeral passed. Flags were held and blew in
the
wind and you could hear the snap and pop. Without a single word we all
knew
we were there for one reason to honor this young man who had given his
life
for us and a little bit of weather wasn't going to stop that from
happening.

From the things you hear and see sometimes you forget. Today I was
reminded.
There are people out there who still believe. They believe in duty.
They
believe in respect. They believe in honor. They believe in our country.
And
even more importantly they understand that a single loss is never a
single
loss it is shared by us all. We all lost someone and we will all
remember
that. We will not forget.

wondering if you were in the rain we were having

We had a quick storm at the church, which was not a problem.

Then we had one serious thundercloud threaten us at the cemetery, but thanks to the Christian Motorcycle Riders, it just brushed past with only a few drops.  As for that BIG lightning and thunder, that was just Jeremy kicking open the gates to heaven.

I think everyone got wet either with rain or wet roads going home but like MissezTicklz said, “It was worth it”.

Thank you all

Marlene & Roger, I have posted about 45 photos from SSG Deason's Mission, as well as a few other shots of his family, etc., in a PhotoBucket.  The location is:

If you have any, I would love to see them, too.  Our area is still in awe over the PGR and the entire funeral.

I just want to say thank you to all the riders that came to Jackson on Sunday to support Jeremy. I was one of his friends from school and I can't even explain how much we love and miss him. Your show of patriotism really put so much into prospective and showed everyone that his sacrifice touched a lot more than our town of Jackson. I know that Jeremy is so proud of how the weekend went and I personally don't think I have ever and will ever be moved in that way ever again. Thank you all and God Bless
