We now have a confirmed transport schedule from Dover.
ESCORT FROM ST. LOUIS: Thursday 9/14 - Cpl. Jeremy Shank will arrive at 1610 (4:10 PM) at the American Airlines Cargo Facility (Dock 1). We will have an escorted procession leaving McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson at 1:15 PM.
THE ITINERARY IS NOW SET:
The viewing will be at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson (address below) from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday. The family welcomes anyone who may want to attend the viewing. Anyone wishing to stand vigil may do so.
The funeral will be at the 1st Baptist Church in Jackson (address below) at 2:30 PM on Sunday.
A guess would be 4:00-ish, the funeral procession will continue on to Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
STAGING: We will stage at the new VFW Hall on N. Kingshighway in Cape - tentatively from 10:00 to 11:30 AM with kickstands up at 11:30 to the funeral home to escort Cpl. Shank to the church by 12:30.
Everything is pretty close in. We plan to be escorted the 4-5 miles from the VFW to McCombs. We'll double back a couple miles to the church, and double back again the couple miles to the cemetery. With a large procession, we could be entering the cemetery with not everyone out of the church yet. The cemetery is a nice paved grid and although the entrance is tight we should be able to get parked OK. We will discuss this at the staging briefing.
The family and community has embraced our presence completely. We will do them proud.
Here are the addresses I promised. Stay tuned for maps and directions from around the compass.

Jackson MO ______________________________________________________ We have not gotten a confirmed transport schedule from Dover. The likely scenario is a Thursday arrival, viewing Saturday and funeral Sunday. The Casualty Assistance Office is trying to get Cpl. Shank flown into Cape. Otherwise it will likely be St. Louis. We have been invited to escort the Cpl. from whichever airport to the funeral home. Stay tuned - we may know yet today. Again, tentative is the word. If that schedule holds, the viewing will be at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson (address below) from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday. The family welcomes anyone who may want to attend the viewing. Once more tentatively, the funeral will be at the 1st Baptist Church in Jackson (address below) at 2:30 PM on Sunday. A guess would be 4:00-ish, the funeral procession will continue to Russel Heights Cemetery in Jackson. We have gotten permission to stage at the new VFW Hall on N. Kingshighway in Cape - tentatively from 10:00 to 12:00 Noon with kickstands up to the funeral home to escort Cpl. Shank to the church by 12:30. Everything is pretty close in. We plan to be escorted the 4-5 miles from the VFW to McCombs. We'll double back a couple miles to the church, and double back again the couple miles to the cemetery. Jackson MO Please note promotion to Cpl. Jeremy Shank: ___________________________________________________ We have a confirmed mission. The family would like us to assist with the escort from St. Louis. We're waiting for Dover to set the transport date so the itinerary can be set. The Casualty Assistance Office told me Jeremy would be promoted to Corporal, but he wanted to confirm before I post. I should know that in the morning and order the plaque. I meet with McComb funeral home in the morning. As of this afternoon they had not confirmed the cemetery.

Area soldier killed in Iraq WednesdayThursday, September 7, 2006
A local teenager serving in the U.S. Army was killed in Iraq Wednesday.
Jeremy Shank, 18, of Jackson was killed early Wednesday morning local time. He was in the Army's 25th Infantry Division, based in Hawaii. Details on his death were not immediately available.
A U.S. Department of Defense spokesman declined to comment on Shank's death, citing statutes that require at least a 24-hour waiting period following notification of the soldier's family. His family declined comment Wednesday night.
Shank is the second Jackson war death since the Vietnam War. Sgt. Robert Davis, 23, of Jackson, died in Afghanistan on Aug. 19, 2005, when a roadside bomb exploded near his armored vehicle.

May God bless and keep Pfc Shank. Like many of our fallen heros, Jeremy paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom just as his life was beginning. To the family and friend of Pfc Shank, take comfort in knowing that he is by God's side and is still watching over us. I will never forget this American hero and will do my best to honor Jeremy as an escort to his final resting place.

For the family of PFC. Jeremy Shank:
I can only imagine what you and your family have gone through since being notified of the death of Jeremy. I want you to know that you are not alone. Hearts of families all over the United States are grieving with you and have your family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
LIFE...so fragile. LOSS... so sudden. HEART...so broken.
In time, there will come a day when the tears of sorrow
will softly flow into sighs of remembrance. Your heart will begin to heal itself. Grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy; & you will hear the whisper of hope. There will come a day when you will welcome the pangs of remembrance
as a sun shower of the soul; a turning of the tide; the promise of peace. There will come a day when you will risk loving,
go on believing, and treasure the remembering.
Jeremy was a very good and brave man. You have much to be proud of. He has not left you, but has been re-deployed to Heaven. I wish that I could ease your pain and sadness, but it will be a long, slow and painful climb. Pain this deep will never go entirely away, but I pray that as each day that passes the hurt becomes a little less. And the memories of a lifetime will sustain you. These memories are your keepsake that can never be taken away. God has Jeremy in his keeping, but you have him forever in your thoughts and hearts. We pray that our Savior – in whose presence Jeremy now rests – will comfort you and ease the pain of this loss and that your memories of Him will shine through the sadness.
