My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Staff Sgt. Mercado-Velazquez. At a time when words seem weak and empty, please know that many hearts are filled with strong emotions; filled with pride and appreciation for this young hero's service and sacrifice! My grandmother once said, " We should thank God for the gift of memory - without it life would be so barren. " I sincerely hope that memories of your Angel will keep him close in spirit always.

For the family of Staff Sgt. Angel D. Mercado-Velazquez:
I can only imagine what you and your family have gone through since being notified of the death of Angel. I want you to know that you are not alone. Hearts of families all over the United States are grieving with you and have your family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
LIFE...so fragile. LOSS... so sudden. HEART...so broken.
In time, there will come a day when the tears of sorrow
will softly flow into sighs of remembrance. Your heart will begin to heal itself. Grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy; & you will hear the whisper of hope. There will come a day when you will welcome the pangs of remembrance
as a sun shower of the soul; a turning of the tide; the promise of peace. There will come a day when you will risk loving,
go on believing, and treasure the remembering.
Angel was a very good and brave man. You have much to be proud of. He has not left you, but has been re-deployed to Heaven. I wish that I could ease your pain and sadness, but it will be a long, slow and painful climb. Pain this deep will never go entirely away, but I pray that as each day that passes the hurt becomes a little less. And the memories of a lifetime will sustain you. These memories are your keepsake that can never be taken away. God has Angel in his keeping, but you have him forever in your thoughts and hearts. We pray that our Savior – in whose presence Angel now rests – will comfort you and ease the pain of this loss and that your memories of Him will shine through the sadness.

To all of you, thank you. My cousin is Angels widow and at a time like this it is nice to know that there are people like all of you out there. Angel leaves behind, not only his wife, but a 1 month old son whom he never met but through pictures. He was born just 10 days after his daddy deployed. Tonight will be a night of tears and prayers as the family receives Angel. He will receive what he has earned and that is a heroes welcome and farewell. I talked to my cousin on Monday and she has made it a promise to make sure that he receives the best of the best. Again, thank you all and God Bless always. |
