UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

There have been several changes to this mission for Barney Ross SHANE Goodman.

The PGR is going to honor the families request that the services be kept simple.  They truly appreciate the PGR's efforts in their Son and Brother's behalf and have asked that the PGR support the Internment Service at the cemetery only.  There will be no procession from the funeral home.  Details follow:

STAGING:   1330 - 1400,    KSU 1415 for the cemetery.

PGR staging will be at the San Jacinto Mall. Take the GARTH ROAD EXIT #792 going east on I-10.  Proceed to the driveway just prior to CHILI'S on the right side of the eastbound service road.  This comes up quick so watch for traffic.  The parking lot fronts on the service road.

Note:  For those of you coming from the north I noticed that there were no toll booths on Beltway 8 from Lake Houston Parkway to I-10 Eastbound.  I think the same holds true from I-45 but am not certain.)

INTERNMENT SERVICE:  1500 In The Pavilion

MEMORY GARDEN CEMETERY
, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown TX.

Please bring all your flags for the service.  Large Flag Bikes stage separately.

Thank you for honoring another Fallen Veteran Brother and his Family in their sorrow.

This is a short notice, confirmed mission in the Houston area for Mr. Barney Goodman age 57
a Vietnam Marine.  It is reported the Baytown resident succumbed over the weekend to a brutal robbery, one that left him beaten and clawing his way out of a Liberty County creek before dying at a local hospital.

The robbers, police said, were after his $1,800 monthly veteran's disability payment.

Burial Ceremony to be held on Thursday Sept 7, 2006 at 3:00pm at Memory Gardens, 8624 Garth Rd. Baytown, Tx.

Staging location and time to be announced by the Ride Captain for this mission as soon as available.

Rich "Boomer" Ford will be the Lead RC for this mission, I will need a second RC. Rich has made contact with the family and it is a "GO".

Let's turn out to show our respects for this veteran, especially under these horrendous circumstances.

Barney Goodman was a Marine in Vietnam. He had both of his legs amputated due to diabetes. Sadly he was killed this past weekend for his disability check.
This story was reported by the Houston news media and by the Houston Chronicle. You can view this story at:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/4162871.html

The PGR (Houston RC Boomer Ford) is working on being at Mr. Goodman’s services to give him a proper hero’s send off. His services are tentatively set for this Thursday the 7th. More details to follow. Please stand ready to honor this veteran.

To the family of Barney Goodman
I pray the God of hope fills you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope through the power of His Spirit.  Romans 15:13!!!  We honor you for standing alongside of this hero for all these years.  We prayed for your famiy in our church tonight.  I pray God's supernatural strength is yours in this time of grief.

What is a vet?

"He is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being, a person who offered some of his life's most vital years in the service of his country, and who sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs. He is a soldier and a savior and a sword against the darkness, and he is nothing more than the finest, greatest testimony on behalf of the finest, greatest nation ever known. So remember, each time you see someone who has served our country, just lean over and say Thank You. That's all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded or were awarded". unkown

I would like to thank the State of Texas, and the entire PGR for acting on this so quickly. God bless this hero, and may there be a special place next to the throne of God for him. My prayers are with his family. I won't be able to make this mission, obviously, but I'll be there in spirit.

God, I wished I could be there to honor this great man. Next time someone thinks that life is being tough on them, just look at what this man overcame just to get out of the water. Mr. Goodman was a great man to overcome all that he has, just to lose it to someone who will not just use his intestinal fortitude, and get out there and earn the money. What does this say about our great state of Texas? How can this happen? I am so mad, I have tears in my eyes. Never ashamed to show a tear for a fellow veteran. I believe that they should let other veterans visit with the people that do these kinds of crimes for about 10 minutes so that we can school them on just how we feel about this.

To Mr. Goodman's family, there is nothing I can say that will ease your pain. You are going to go thru some very tough times, but God makes us resilient, and with all of the prayers from the rest of us, you should be able to get thru it. Call if you need anything.

Have to go to San Antonio! My Uncle Jimmy was killed on January 7, 1945, and the 17th Airborne Division is having its last reunion ever in the south. This is my last chance to find someone who knew Uncle Jimmy, and find out a little more about him. My prayers go out to all of you.

Condolences to Mr. Goodman, his friends and family. Barney you were a great person and had a fight that no one could ever doubt.

I will be standing with you all in spirit and will spend silent time during Tursday for this man and this horribly unfair loss of life.

Tears are freely falling over this tragedy, the things us humans do to each other in the name of money and greed. The men who did this are the worst of the worst and I agree with Larry above.

My prayers are with him and his family.
I also pray that his murderers are brought to justice quickly and harshly punished.

God Bless and ride safe.
