WELCOME HOME ESCORT
FRIDAY SEPT 8TH
ESCORT FROM BEATRICE TO LINCOLN NECEREMONY AT 5:00 P.M.
ALL PGR AND ALR RIDERS INVITED
DEPARTURE TIMES ARE LISTED BELOW
Cliff,
I believe we met a few times as I help set up the send off ceremonies and the welcome home ceremonies for the Nebraska National Guard. FIRST LET ME SAY THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOUR ORGAINZATION DOES. I can’t even put into words how big of an impact seeing you all at our events means. It’s one of the finest patriotic examples.
WELCOME HOME (SEPT 8th, Friday 5:00pm)
The 67th Area Support Group is expected to return to Lincoln for a 5:00pm welcome home ceremony on Friday, Sept 8th at the Lancaster event center on 84th and Adams. The unit’s Demob station is FT Riley, and the unit will be bused to Lincoln. I was hoping to set them up with a PATRIOT GUARD ESCORT from some point along the way. You can make it as long or as short of an escort as you want to. I just know our soldiers would love this, and what a way for families to see them arrive. I expect the buses to come down HWY 77 to I-80, getting off at the Waverly exit and then heading South on 84th ST to the event center. I was thinking you could pick a location along HWY 77 to pick up the buses. Let me know if this is something you want to try and do. I have contact with the unit at FT Riley and will have cellphone communication with them at all times so we can set this up however you desire the escort to go. Let me know if this is something you are interested in having the riders do and we can set it up accordingly.
Capt Behn, 9-2-06 1350
Thank you for your letter in regards to the escort. I can assure you that we will do everything to be a part of bringing them home. I have contacted Bob Swanson who is Captain of the American Legion Riders who I ride with all the time, and am a member of. He and I can make this happen, but do you have any times that might help us out? I was thinking about meeting somewhere in Beatrice. I know of a Gage county sheriff who lost his son this summer that might be able to help us out with an escort through town. (Mr. Ben Slavin's dad). Just a thought, but I would have to know about what time they would come through there. I will forward this on to Bob, so he can plan also.
We will be very proud to provide this service and am glad that you think highly enough of all of us to be willing to invite us to participate. We love "coming home celebrations".
Thank You,
Cliff Leach

Cliff, Bob, I'm excited to have you escort our heros home. What I can tell you at this point is the unit is arriving in Kuwait now. They are to
arrive in KS Monday evening and begin their demob Tuesday morning. The training schedule for their demob at Riley shows them finishing approximately 1:30. If this goes according to plan they would be on the road heading to Lincoln by 2:00. It's a three hour bus ride. I think Beatrice is a great location to pick the unit up. I would expect the buses to roll through Beatrice about 4:00pm. I will know more on
Tuesday morning when they actually start their demob stuff. At that time I will lock in the ceremony time. Right now we are planning for 5:00pm. I will keep you both as informed as I can. Do one of you have a cellphone that I can pass along to my POC that will be on the bus, and he can call you as they approach the location you decide to start the escort at. Another great spot to start the escort or to add more riders
that can't make it to Beatrice would be HWY 77 and Satillo Road. That truck stop area could hold a lot of bikes. I can't thank you enough for all you do. POSTED BY ROBERT SWANSON-AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS OF NEBRASKA Jan (CPT Behn) On Fri. 9/8, @ 1700 (5:00 PM) there is a WELCOME HOME ceremony at the Lancaster event Center on 84th and Adams. Those of you who have done these before know how much the troops like an escort, so we are planning to meet the busses in the area of Beatrice and escort them the rest of the way. Cliff and I are working with a liaison from the National Guard to try to come up with a time that we can intercept them on Hwy 77 around Beatrice and details will be forthcoming. For now, we should plan on leaving Omaha around 1330 (1:30 PM) from the bp station Hwy 50 south side of I-80 to meet up with Lincoln area riders @ Shoemakers station which is on Hwy 77 & Saltillo Rd. southwest of Lincoln on the east side, across from Rod Kush's power sport shop. We should be ready to leave there @ about 1430 (2:30 PM). These times may change depending on details we receive regarding their schedule, but you got to start somewhere, and we are now started.
OK RIDERS, WE DON’T GET A CHANCE TO DO THESE VERY OFTEN, SO IT’S OUR TURN TO “BRING EM HOME”. Jim turner of Lincoln is going to try and set up a Police escort through town to our destination.
I have talked with Sheriff Slavin in Beatrice, and he will be out of town that day, but will try and get someone to help us out with an escort in Beatrice. We will not fly big flags while on escort, will be traveling at 55mph. Look for the departure times set up by Bob Swanson, and we will meet and ride, or you can meet us in Beatrice.
Busy week planned hope we can get em all in. besure to check for any updates as we get closer to Friday.
Thanks to all,
Cliff Leach

Cliff: There will be 2 of us coming from Grand Island for the 67th Area Support Group Homecoming. One of the guys returning is a co-worker of mine. If anyone is interested in riding with us from Grand Island, e-mail me and we can make arrangements on where to meet. Could someone let me know for sure where to met up in Lincoln. I am familiar with Shoemakers Truck Stop at the I80 milemarker 395 exit. Is this the right place?? Any directions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

| The meeting place for Lincoln is the "second" Shoemaker's Truck Stop, which is located on the SW edge of Lincoln at the corner of Hwy 77 & Saltillo Road.
Beatrice Staging area will be at the WalMart on the North side of Beatrice, located on the East side of Highway 77. |

Mike: Thanks for the offer, but we're going to come to Lincoln earlier and do a little shopping first. We've figured out where to go to find the 2nd Shoemakers at Roca. Thanks again for the help!! We'll see you later today.

This was my first ride with the PGR. What a neat way to start out, the number of members who participated was unreal!! It was a GREAT experience, one that will never be forgotten.
