OK, then, for SURE I'll be there.

Tazer01, I have another bike with two riders who also might be attending.  New members and if we don't hit Raymore and Harrisonville on Saturday, it will be their first rides as PGR members.  I don't have access to a computer after today at 330 central time so you'll have to call my cell number and tell me where and what time you'd like to meet up if you're still planning on attending the Funeral on Sunday.

I'll email you my cell number.

Somebody, if you have one, please bring an extra flag.  I don't have one mounted on the bike or even a pole yet.  I DO have my American Flag jacket so if nobody has an extra flag and it's not too hot, I can just wear that.... it's a winter jacket, though... I'll pray for sunshine and comfortable!!

See you there

Sorry, but I won't be able to make the ride on Sunday, I have something else scheduled that day that I have to go to.

ESCORT UPDATE: SSGT Michael Deason is scheduled to arrive at 7:15 tonight at Lambert in St. Louis.  There will be an entourage coming up from Farmington leaving Taylor Funeral Services at 5:00 PM.  For those of you who want to hook up with them in St. Louis you can go right to the Air Cargo entrance, pretty much a straight shot across the Highway from the Renaissance Hotel.   Please do not arrive much before 6:45 PM, which is about the time the Farmington folks would be arriving.  Those of you who have some  local knowledge, pipe up if there is a better place to stage before heading on in.  I might be getting some better suggestions a bit later.  Thanks everyone.

Additional directions to the air cargo area: Proceed as if going to the East Terminal (not the Main Terminal). After turning off of Lambert International Blvd, turn right immediately onto Air Cargo Rd. Follow Air Cargo Rd. past the cargo buildings (on your left) and then turn left into the cargo area. If you miss the turn you will reach the T intersection at James S. McDonnel Blvd.

For the family of Staff Sgt. Michael L. Deason:

I can only imagine what you and your family have gone through since being notified of the death of Michael. I want you to know that you are not alone.  Hearts of families all over the United States are grieving with you and have your family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

LIFE...so fragile.    LOSS... so sudden.    HEART...so broken.

In time, there will come a day when the tears of sorrow

will softly flow into sighs of remembrance. Your heart will begin to heal itself.
Grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy; & you will hear the whisper of hope.
There will come a day when you will welcome the pangs of remembrance

as a sun shower of the soul; a turning of the tide; the promise of peace.
There will come a day when you will risk loving,

go on believing, and treasure the remembering.

Michael was a very good and brave man. You have much to be proud of. He has not left you, but has been re-deployed to Heaven. I wish that I could ease your pain and sadness, but it will be a long, slow and painful climb.  Pain this deep will never go entirely away, but I pray that as each day that passes the hurt becomes a little less. And the memories of a lifetime will sustain you. These memories are your keepsake that can never be taken away.  God has Michael in his keeping, but you have him forever in your thoughts and hearts. We pray that our Savior – in whose presence Michael now rests – will comfort you and ease the pain of this loss and that your memories of Him will shine through the sadness.

08 Sep 2006 9:08 PM Alert
I just returned from the airport escort, where we had a good showing of about 16 riders on 15 bikes to show respect for SSgt. Deason. The family seemed very appreciative for our presence. After providing an honor guard as the casket was loaded, we left with the procession - 2 bikes leading the hearse and the rest following the family - passing under a giant flag held aloft by two ladder trucks just as the sun sank below the horizon. I could not make the full ride tonight, so at 270 and 55 (on the south side of St. Louis County) I pulled away from the procession with a salute and a silent prayer for a safe ride and the family's comfort.

To those planning to travel from the St. Louis area to the funeral on Sunday, we will stage at the southern edge of the South County Mall (Westfield South County) parking lot at 9:00 a.m., with plans to leave around 10:00. The mall is right at the intersection of I-270/I-255 and I-55.

If coming from the east on I-255, take exit #1D onto S. Lindbergh Blvd. Turn left on Lemay Ferry Rd, then right on S. County Center Way (into the mall). At the stop sign make a left and follow the mall road to the south side of the parking lot (where it overlooks I-255).

If coming from the west on I-270, either take exit #1B-A/I55 and follow the signs to Lemay Ferry Rd., then turn left onto Lemay Ferry and left on S. County Center Way (into the mall). Turn left at the stop sign and follow the road to the south side of the parking lot. Alternately (my recommendation to avoid the exit maze on #1B-A), follow I-270 under I-55 and take exit #1D. Turn Right onto Lemay Ferry and then left onto Lemay Ferry and left on S. County Center Way (into the mall). Turn left at the stop sign and follow the road to the south side of the parking lot.

From the north on I-55, take exit #196 onto S. Lindbergh Blvd (left onto Lindbergh). Turn right onto Union Rd. then left into the mall parking lot. Follow the mall road around to your right to the south parking lot.

From the south on I-55, take exit #197 onto S. Linbergh Blvd (right onto Lindbergh). Turn right onto Union Rd. then left into the mall parking lot. Follow the mall road around to your right to the south parking lot.

Thank you so much, all of you who met the family at the airport. I went to Taylor Funeral Home, but with it being at 5:00 p.m., I guess everyone else didn't get off work early and couldn't be there to accompany the family to the airport. This country girl has never ridden alone in the big city; so I waited for them to get ready to leave and came home. Hope to see you on Sunday!!!

I don't know if you'll get this answer in time or not, but as long as you agree with and can follow the mission statement, you may ride any mission.

The funeral is at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 10th.

We are going to pre-stage in the parking lot of Missouri Beauty Academy, 224 E Columbia St (Hwy W). It's right in the middle of town across from the police station. They have a nice large parking lot and on the far end is a Casey Store. Staging is from 11:00 to 1:00. We will brief and have kickstands up at 1:00 to proceed to the church. The First Assembly of God Church is on N. Washington (Hwy D) just outside the city limits. We have asked for an escort to the church.

With deep regrets it looks like I will not make it to Farmington today for the services. My wife's foot issues are getting worse and I will be needed here at home. I'll try to get to the St. Louis staging location briefly to touch base with those going down from this area, but otherwise will not be able to take part in this mission.

To all those who will be present - ride safely; ride with pride; ride with respect.

I didn't know SSG Deason, but he was a NCHS Raider like me. I wish him and his family the best and my prayers are with him and his family.

Thanks to the PGR...you guys are awesome and I wish I could've been there in my full service blues...because I would.

I just arrived home after participating in Staff Sgt. Michael Deason's funeral procession.  It was my first mission and I was amazed at the number of bikes that showed up.  Heading home, I stopped at the Hardee's in Potosi for a rest break, to grab a bite and to gather my thoughts.  As I was sitting there, I noticed a young woman and a soldier walk in.  The soldier looked my way and said something to his companion.  After ordering she came over, she said Ma'am were you in the funeral procession.  Michael was my brother-in-law, and I just want to thank you for being there.  It meant a lot to my sister.  The family were thankful for our support.  I said you are welcome but it was our privilage and honor to support the family and honor Sgt Deason.  As they were leaving the soldier said I want to thank you again.  It touched me that even in their grief they wanted to let the PGR know how much they appreciated us being there.  The number of other patrons that came up and thanked me, shook my hand, was mind blowing.  Almost everyone had been in the people lining the road.  One lady said, that she got chills as we rode by. She said we proved that patriotism was alive and well.

My first mission---what can I say? I'm still overwhelmed. I've never seen such an outpouring of support, such patriotism. I think the one who got to me the most was on Washington Street, right after we left the church---on our left there was a little elderly man, probably in his 80's, and you could tell he had dug his old uniform out of the closet and had it cleaned and pressed, standing there saluting as we went by. I couldn't help but cry at that. That was the first of many, many things from today that I will remember the rest of my life. Thank you Randy for all you did. It was a great day---my heart swelled with pride to be a part of the Patriot Guard Riders. Our town is still talking about nothing else tonight. Also, I enjoyed meeting many of you today---I can now put some faces with names. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this fine group.
