Hey there great Dane...are you stalking me on the threads??? lol Yeah, I got wet on this ride! I am upholding the "Maine Underwater Rider's Group" title down here in Alabama! Although, the entire mission I only put 20 miles on the scoot - we all got wet !
It was an awesome ceremony and such an honor to be in the company of so many that have served this grreat nation over so many years! The Major and other currently serving soldiers came up to all of us to shake our hands and thank us for all we do...it baffled me! "for what we do?" we ride in freedom daily....we rest in peace & safety nightly...all because of what THEY DO. It is we that owe them a debt of gratitude. It was our honor to be there to support all of them and thank them for there service and sacrifices.
One of the veterans stated during his speech..."the road to freedom is paved with Purple Hearts"
During the ceremony, they shared the history of the Purple Heart...for a civilian...it was quite interesting and great learning..in which I would like to share here...
THE PURPLE HEART
The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the Armed Forces wounded in combat by an instrument of war in the hands of an enemy or posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those killed in action or die of wounds received. It is the oldest U.S. military award.
MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEART
"The Military Order of the Purple Heart: (MOPH) was formed in 1932 for comradeship and patriotism in the interest of all who have been awarded the Purple Heart . The Order is incorporated and chartered by Congress. MOPH Departments and Chapters are non-profit, patriotic, service organizations composed exclusively of Purple Heart Recipients. The official flower if MOPH is the Viola.
Thank You to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 2201, Huntsville, Alabama
For this beautiful Monument to Honor our Veterans, The Wonderful Ceremony, and the Invitation for us to attend.
Also, Thank You to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, their Staff and all others that made this event possible.
