Itinerary For Mission to Honor Sgt Darry Benson

As Lamar mentioned there will be two staging areas for this mission.

Staging area #1
will be for family escort from their home to laceName>St JohnslaceName> laceName>MissionarylaceName> laceName>BaptistlaceName> laceType>ChurchlaceType>

5 Riders with 3x5 flags are required for this escort.
The staging area for these 5 riders is:

Hess Gas Station
791 West Firetower Rd Winterville, NC ostalCode>28590ostalCode>

Staging time
9:15am - 9:30am
We will wait at this staging area for the funeral director.
He should arrive at approximately
9:45am

We will follow the funeral director to the home in a uniform staggered formation.
After arriving at the home we will line up behind the lead car and in front of the family car.
We will follow the lead car to the church (approx 21.5 mi). After we enter the parking lot we will break to the right and join the other riders. The five of us will park side by side.

After the service we will lead the procession to the cemetery. We will line up in an order to be announced at the staging area. The other riders will leave about ten minutes before us to be there when the family arrives.

The staging area is the parking lots of two vacant building 100 feet north of and diagonal to

THE  STAGING AREA IS 2 MILES FROM THE CHURCH ON BRIERY SWAMP RD.

If there is need for more restrooms we have been given permission to use the facilities at the Fire Station across the street.

These riders will also ride in a uniform staggered formation to the church.
After arriving they will put in position by the Ride Captain.

After all attendees enter the church these riders will prepare to leave for the internment which is approximately 93 miles east on 264 in
Engelhard, NC.
These riders will leave approximately 10 minutes prior to the procession.

It is possible that there will be small water patches on the roads. Be Careful.

We need one more rider with a 3x5 flag for the family escort portion of the mission.

We have been invited by Sgt. Benson’s wife to be present at the funeral service. She is anticipating his arrival tomorrow and the funeral service at St Johns Missionary Baptist Church in Stokes, NC on this Saturday at 11:00am. (Stokes is located near Greenville.) Doug Jones “earldapearl” has volunteered to be the Ride Captain for the mission to honor Sgt. Darry Benson. If the mission goes as planned on Saturday anticipate staging approximately 0900-0930. The itinerary with the final details will be posted as soon as possible. Support as best you can to honor this fallen Soldier.

Please be careful as you ride, we will be getting a lot of rain, watch for standing water in low areas.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty



The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was
supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Darry Benson, 46, of Winterville, N.C., died on Aug 27, in Camp Virginia,
Kuwait, from a non-combat related cause.Benson was assigned the Army National
Guard's 730th Quartermaster Battalion, Ahoskie, N.C.

The incident is under investigation.

While it is not possible to lessen your sorrow and grief, I pray that God will grant you the strength to help you make it through this time. I am so sorry for you loss. Please know that I appreciate the sacrifice made by SGT Benson. I also ask that you know that I grieve with you on this loss.  He is a true HERO and a fine warrior.
