I have been in contact with the Columbus FD Officer assigned to help Mrs Nichols with the funeral arrangements for her husband.  He was with her at the time I called. He was familiar with our organization and approached Mrs Nichols about our coming to honor her husband.  While she understands and appreciates our offer to come out in honor of her husband and to show our support for his family and the department, she has asked that we stand down. I asked him to pass on to her our condolensces and appreciation for her husbands service to his community.

Firefighter Samuel Nichols III, 28, Columbus, OH - Motorcycle Accident

On Saturday, Samuel Nichols III, 28, became the second firefighter from this fire station to die in a motorcycle crash in only six weeks when his bike collided with a car in Fairfield County. Nichols, who lived west of Lancaster leaves behind his wife, Leah, and a young daughter. He died when his motorcycle collided with a car driven by Dwight Auman, 86, who was attempting to turn left into the driveway of his home on
Winchester Road in Bloom Township. Auman's wife and passenger, Dorothy, 88, also died in the crash.
