Attention Maryland PGR Members
We have a Welcome Home mission to greet a fellow Maryland PGR Ride Captain, MSgt. David Byron, who is returning from the Sandbox. This mission is scheduled for September 6th, and is to take place at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport and the Harry L. Cooper VFW Post 160, 2597 Dorsey Rd.
Preliminary Itinerary:
Who: MSgt. David Byron
What: Welcome Home
When: September 6, 2006, at 1:30 pm
Where: Baltimore-Washington International Airport and the Harry L. Cooper VFW Post 160, 2597 Dorsey Rd.
Why: It gives us a chance to welcome home a fellow PGR Ride Captain and an American soldier.
How: Assemble on the top-most floor of the short term parking garage (6th floor) on the Eastern wall closest to the skyway crossover to the main building, NLT 1:30pm on September the 6th. At precisely 1:30pm we will cross over the bridge and make our way to the "E" concourse and down to the "Air Mobility Command" area and await his arrival. Remember that there will be many returning service members, and all are to be given our respect for their service. Bring flags, but due to policy and security circumstance, we may not be able to display them inside. This will be a call by the Maryland Airport Authority as we approach the 6th.
Once he has retrieved his luggage, we will escort him and his wife, Ginger, back to their car in the upper parking area and depart the airport using Rt 170 south to Rt 176. At Rt
176, we will turn left and head east on Rt 176 for about 1/2 mile and then turn right into the parking area of the Harry L. Cooper VFW Post 160, 2597 Dorsey Rd.
The short-term parking is free for the first hour, but they charge $4.00 for the next 30 minutes, and $2.00 for each 30 minutes thereafter, for a maximum of $20.00. If there is any delay, be sure to have some cash on you.
For those who can not make the 1:30pm muster at the airport, please go directly to the VFW. This is where we plan to officially welcome him back home.
Afterwards, those wishing to escort David and his wife back to their home in Charlotte Hall, St. Mary's County, are encouraged to do so.
I ask that all who are planning to attend to please send me an e-mail at: rsbeckwell@verizon.net. I would like to get a quick head count to give to the airport security.
If there are any other questions, please contact me. |

All,
I would like to add to this that not only is this a great opportunity to welcome David back home and to the PGR, this flight will be full of American service members whose first sight when they get home will be the Patriot Guard honoring their return. As personally satisfying as this will be to have David home safe and sound, we will be touching the lives of many more people that day.
On September 6th, we also have an Arlington mission for a fallen soldier. That mission is being run by the Virginia members of the PGR. I know you can’t make both missions, but I hope that you will be able to make one of them. |
