ISP Lt. Gary Dudley - Brownsburg, IN - 8/29/2006 - VERY SHORT NOTICE MISSION

Indiana PGR - VERY short notice mission
On August 22, 2006, while riding in a bicycle ride to honor the fallen heroes of Indiana, Indiana State Trooper Gary Dudley and Lake County Sheriff's Department Chief Gary Martin answered their final call. Into the seventh day of their annual ride their support vehicle was struck from behind on SR 63 just north of Perrysville, Indiana, and the collision shoved the support vehicle into the riders killing Gary and Gary and injuring retired Indianapolis Police Department Officer Spencer Moore, and the driver of the support vehicle "Rocky" Bumpus. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this tragic loss.

We are a go for honoring ISP Lt Gary Dudley. Details are:
Service is at Connection Point Church, 1800 N Green St in Brownsburg (about 1 mi N of I-74 on SR-267 in Brownsburg)
Service is Tuesday August 29 at 1100
We should arrive at 0830

There will be a security check point that we all must pass through.
We will line the entrance with flags for the arrival of the family, friends and supporters.
We are to be the final group in the procession and are invited to the grave services, but due to the number of people (est 500 LEO cars alone) there, we will not have nor take the time to stage flags at Crown Hill. If opportunity presents, we may hold a flag line as the attendees exit the service but this will be determined at that time.

I am going to look for a staging area now. Hopefully I can find something close enough that we can be KSU at 0815.

Respect - DNR

I would like to post some info here and by no means is it meant to be negative or derogatory.
An LEO death is as a terrible a loss to the community as we can imagine as a community. The LEO community support their own in a very big way and for obvious reasons. Our Mission is to Honor and Respect the service of a fallen hero. Having said that a LEO funeral is different as the entire LEO community across the Nation gets involved as does the State and local communties. We never wish to impede or assume a leading role in these types of funerals unless asked but our task is to be of a supportive nature and mainly because that is just the nature of these types of funerals. We greatly feel the loss of another fine LEO and Lt. Dudley will be missed and put on our roles of the honored but also we rarely are involved in the funeral proceedings to the extent that we are in a KIA military person. Our mere presence shows honor and respect. Sometimes our participation entails only being there and that is as it should be considering the above mentioned organizations and community involvement.

Lt. Dudley - You will Be Missed BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!!!

God Bless your family and be with them in this sad time and remind them of the great things that Lt. Dudley did and represented.

Staging will be at Pavilion Cinemas 8. It is Approx. .5 mile north of I-74 on SR267. It is the first entrance past the Union Federal Bank and is on the right. The theater sits about 100 yards back from the road. This will place us about a quarter of a mile (0.25 mi) south of the church. Because of the number of attendees and traffic around the church entrance, I would encourage every to arrive from the south/I-74 direction.

Respect - DNR

For those that have fallen, I will stand. I will not forget.

I wanted to personally thank everyone who attended today's mission to honor ISP Lt. Gary Dudley. It was a very long day, but no one noticed the time on their watches until the day was over. Upon getting home and realizing what we did and how we performed our mission; I know this group would have all gladly turned around and put in the same number of hours without hesitation. I don't know why, since I already hold everyone in the highest esteem, but I keep getting truly amazed by each and every one of our members on each mission we attend. It's probably because every mission holds it's own rewards, and every person there adds their individual personality and contributes their own successful touch wherever they go. Terry was there early with his trailer. DNR was ready and waiting for everyone to arrive, and I must say to DNR, "Great job brother". Some missions are more difficult to coordinate than others due to certain logistics and number of attendees expected, department protocols, Chains of Commands within certain agencies having jurisdiction over the proceedings, services, etc. We were able to get in, park, line up, salute the procession with flags, and honor this hero most quietly, professionally, and with the respect and dignity Lt. Gary Dudley, his family, fellow LEO's, and the community of Brownsburg deserved. Outstanding job. Thank you all again for your presence. It was an honor to be with all of you today.

As always a great honor to show our respect to this fallen hero, the more you hear about this great man the more you know he will be missed, we stood for this hero as we do for all of the fallen hero's, a long day indeed but a noble one. During the procession a lot of Brownsburg showed their love for one of their own. The procession was several miles long winding thru the N.W. part of Indy and nothing but respect and honor was shown the whole trip to Crown Hill. Rest in Peace Brother

Patience.

Honor, respect and patience.

The PGR members at Indiana State Police Lt. Gary Dudley’s service Tuesday exemplify honor, respect and patience. We rode to pay our respect to a local fallen hero.  Maybe some would say that this is outside the norm of our missions but clearly, all law enforcement officers fight for our freedoms, for our piece of mind, for our security.   A parking area was set aside for us and we held a flag line at the exit for the procession.  I have heard estimates of 500 to 600 police cars, 50 plus motorcycle police officers and another 200 to 300 civilian cars.  The local community also came out by the hundreds (maybe thousands) to show their support.  While standing there many thanks were called out to us by this group of men and women that owe us no thanks.  It needed to be done, it was the right thing to do, it was our honor.

Several dignitaries stopped by to thank us; Governor Mitch Daniels, Lt. Colonial Glen Potts from Camp Atterbury to name a couple.  Again, I have to say, it was hour honor.  During our “brief” wait, Chief and Sleepy-Rider made a coffee and donut run.  We also got to wish Marshal a happy 49th (wink, wink) birthday.  A couple of us were interviewed by local (and not so local) television stations.  I was, however, glad to see that the news stories focused on the service and honor for this hero.  I don’t believe we were even mentioned, which is how it should be.

I would like to offer a very special thanks to F/Sgt. Paul Bykowski with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for all of his help in setting up a space for us and allowing us this privilege and honor.   Also to the other conservation officer, you told me your name at 0730, I was bound to forget, Thanks for your patience.

To the men that stood to honor on this some what chilly, drizzly August day, thank you, your honor, respect and patience are second to none.

Thank you to all law enforcement officers for their service, dedication and sacrifice.  God bless the Dudley family and friends in these most difficult times, may God’s peace be with you all.

Lt. Gary Dudley, you will not be forgotten.
