He was born in Lexington, KY, September 5, 1965, son of Richard Rhodes and Dorothea Dhom Rhodes of Pekin, IL.
Todd served his country honorably for eight years as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm while deployed to Southwest Asia. He had been employed as a security specialist with United States Protection Investigation (USPI) while in Afghanistan, and most recently with Cochise Company working in Iraq. Todd and his wife owned and operated Best Video and Audio in Jacksonville, NC, for twelve years. He was a very dedicated worker and family man. He was a very loving husband to Terry, and an engaging father, always interested in the welfare of his sons, teaching them "life's lessons" as well as individual skills in construction with Ryan and diving with Shaun. He was a man who simply loved life. His hobbies included dancing, diving, tennis, and sailing.
He was a man of faith.
Todd 's memory will be forever cherished by his family and the many friends and co-workers whose lives he touched along his way. Surviving in addition to his parents is his wife, Terry Kittner Rhodes, and two sons, Shaun Rhodes and Ryan Rhodes, all of Wilmington; his grandmother, Hilda Dhom of Newton, IL; a sister, Kimberly Klokkenga and husband Mark of Peoria, IL; nephew, Austin Klokkenga; niece, Megan Klokkenga; and nephew, Kyle Rakiecki; and his two Australian Shepherds, _Mocha and Cocoa. A nephew, Kellen Rakiecki preceded him in death.
Military honors will be accorded by a Marine Honor Guard from Camp Lejeune, NC.

A long ride 150 mile ride home, a hot shower, a cold drink and good memories of another successful mission by North Carolina's dedicated Patriot Guard Riders. There is a moment on each mission when the importance of what we do comes into clear focus for me. As we departed the funeral home after paying honors to our fallen brother, a man with tears in his eyes stood at perfect attention, saluting us as we left. My hearing isn't what it used to be but I believe I heard him say earlier that he was the father of Todd Rhoades and was himself a Vietnam veteran. If we can make a grieving family member so thankful for our presence that he wants to salute us through his tears, we have done a good day's work. We let families know that the death of their loved one meant something to a lot of people they'd never met. Today was nothing short of a 20-hour miracle. A fine job by our road and state captains, and an especially fine job by the 23 riders who dropped everything and rode a long way on short notice to honor a Marine. Two of the riders from Fort Bragg were in Afghanistan this time last week, yet they left family and friends to join us. I am so proud to be a part of this organization.
Until we have to do it again.

| finally made it home at 12:30 am . this was an extremly emotional day for many of us. I have never seen the entire group of friends and family members gather outside after the service to acknowledge our presence and salute the PGR like today. It was an honor to stand for this hero. The daughter of the company Todd Rhodes worked for approached me to ask if Todd rode with us or why werte we there.I explained to her that we were there to pay utmost respect and honor to the Rhodes family and Todd. She stated she had never seen such a Patriotic display in her life. She also stated her father was in Bagdad for a memorial service today for Todd as well.Never has the tears fallen from my eyes as did today. Thank you all for your patronage and allowing me to stand with such a fine group of people. |
