Updates: Merrillville In. is on Central Daylight Savings Time, adjust your clocks accordingly. There are gas stations within a few miles of Church along with a few places to grab a bite to eat. For those coming,

I will be at the staging area around 07:00 and hope to coordinate more with the P.D. if not sooner. As stated please be there by 07:45 as they are going to start staging vehicles at 08:00 and I want to keep it simple to stage us. "Cages" I don’t know where you will be placed in the procession as that is the decision of the Police.

I am trying to see if they will keep us together, but keep in mind that the bikes "may" be toward the front, with you in the rear. Please do not think this is in disrespect if it happens. There will also be other Motorcycle Groups there as Gary was President of the local Blue Knights.

Thank you

Steve "Capt Morgan

Retired Lake County Police Chief Gary Martin, 8/28/2006, Merrillville, IN

The Commander at Lake County Sheriff's Office has given us the invite as the spokesman for the family and the Department.

Gary Martin, Retired Lake County Police Chief

We have been invited to participate in the Funeral for Retired Police Chief Gary Martin.
COPS Cycling for COPS
On August 22, 2006, while riding in a bicycle ride to honor the fallen heroes of Indiana, Indiana State Trooper Gary Dudley and Lake County Sheriff's Department Chief Gary Martin answered their final call. Into the seventh day of their annual ride their support vehicle was struck from behind on SR 63 just north of Perrysville, Indiana, and the collision shoved the support vehicle into the riders killing Gary and Gary and injuring retired Indianapolis Police Department Officer Spencer Moore, and the driver of the support vehicle "Rocky" Bumpus. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this tragic loss.

Monday August 28th Be at Church: Our Lady of Consolation Church , 8303 Taft St.
Merrillville, In. at 07:45.

Staging will begin at 08:00. We will fall in where they want us.

We will form a Flag Line at Church as Family & Friends arrive.

Services will be from 10:00 to approx 12:00

We will again form a Flag Line as they bring him out.

We will also participate in the procession to the Cemetery which is only a few miles away, but will encompass stopping at Lake Count Sheriff's Office for a "Final Call Salute"

There will be other Law Enforcement M/C groups there also, We will work along with them, but we will follow our Mission Statement.

As this is on a short notice please send me an e-mail at: S.MORGAN1@att.net ONLY if you are coming. (This is only to get a approx. head count)

P.S. If any other R/C is coming please bring Waivers, I don't have access to a printer at this time.

Well the day started off gloomy with rain early in the morning, with partial clearing, so we thought we might be in luck. Got to the Church about 07:00 and Terry was already there with the trailer & Flags. We had 11 PGR Members who braved the weather and long miles show up. Due to some communication problems a lot of the mission was plated by ear, and with the large turn-out of P.D. most of what I planned got scrapped as there was no good place for us where we would not interrupt their Honor service. We did wind up leading the Hearse and family with the Blue Knights ahead of the Police and the rest which was nice. I want to extend a special Thank You to Terry for making the trip even though we did not use the Flags, and Thanks to all the PGR who came. DNR I heard after I got to the cemetery you had some problems with you bike? I hope nothing serious and you were able to get home with no problem. Now to back track a little. I began by saying that the day started out with rain then started clearing up. We thought "Good it looks like the weather will hold out for us" We weren't so lucky. While we were standing outside as the service started the rain returned and was to continue the rest of the day. I had to feel sorry for the PGR who had no rain gear with them, and also the P.D. Motor Officers who didn't have their's as they got soaked. In fact all the P.D. got soaked as they were standing outside the Church before they brought Gary out to give their final salute. The best part of the Mission for me was when we arrived at the Cemetery they had the bikes line both sides of the street and there we gave Gary our final salute. Steve.
