To say we had a good turn out would be a gross understatement! There were a total of 225 bikes and 10-15 cages (per Doc's count), plus family and friends (maybe 250-270 people per Doc) in the move to the cemetry. It was an awesome site, to see all the people on the sides of the road standing, holding flags, signs stating you will not be forgotten, or with just their hand over their heart. Thanks Doc for keeping up with the numbers!
The oncoming traffic did not move until all passed from what I understand. I know several people stood outside their vehicles with their hands over their hearts. All in all there were a total of (5) states present with the PGR (AL, GA, KY, MS, TN-middle, and west), KPG, Rolling Thunder Chapter, American Legion riders, riders from Bridgestone/Firestone (where JD's father worked) to honor this fallen Marine and his family.
Thank you Greg, Slinky, and Uncle KennyB for all your help and support...................
One of JD's sisters came up to me after the gravesite services and thank me and asked me to make sure everyone that came knew how gratefull the family was for the out pouring of support for her brother. She hugged me and left to join the rest of the family. I also attempted to comfort JD's mom breifly, the gentleman pushing her wheelchair just kept saying "Thank you".
First Sgt. Bass (CACO) thanked me and others numerous times today, from the display of flags for the hearse and family to drive between at the funeral home, to the flags present at the entrance to the cemetry..................
I did catch channel 4 news, it was an awesome site to see all the out pouring of support for this Marine and his family.
I am not much on writing reports, I tend to ramble on..... FlashBulb I can't wait until you have time to post the pictures you took, and hopefully musicmanm58 will get his posted also.
In case you didn't know, one of the police officers assisting in traffic control, was taking pictures also. He was on top of I-840 taking pictures of the entire line of cars, then bikes, then more cars at the end. He is e-mailing those to musicmanm58 to be posted also. He found us afterwards at Logan's to tell me that the site of the line of bikes and cages from up on I-840 was just awesome, and to thank all the groups that came out to support 'their son'....
I hope everyone arrived home safely.
I am sure I have left out a lot, but tried to include as many key things that I could remember. Please feel free to add anything to this that I may have forgotten....

I trust everyone made it home safe and sound. Thanks to all that rode so far from out of state to be here to honor this hero... that is really awesome of you all. I have photos from todays mission on an album at my MSN photo album for all to view... there will be more added at a later date (most likely after Labor Day weekend) that a kind Murfreesboro police officer promised to send me via e-mail that he was taking all along our journey. You can view the album at:
http://musicmansworld1958.spaces.live.com/
Note: that there are many albums here, so make sure the one you are wanting to view is showing, and you can click on the > VCR button to start a slideshow if you like, or use the i> button to view them one at a time (makes it easier to save to your computer that way).
Feel free to snag in pictures you want... I take them for all to share.!!
Be Safe & Have a Great Labor Day Weekend.!!

Home safe in MS. Well organized mission today. It's good we can work with several groups without letting selfish pride get in the way. Today was truly about Lance Cpl. Hirlston and his family. My prayers are for their comfort.

I hope all made it home safe this afternoon. The turn out for Cpl. Hirlston was great today and it made me proud to be part of it. It was good to see so many organizations work together to show America and all the troops that there are people in this great country that patriotism in on fire once again for the men and women who put their lives on the line each day for our freedom. Dreamcatcher did a great job today and all went well. I hope to see many of you at the meet & greet in Ethridge, Tn. on sept. 9 . May GOD bless you all.

I may or may not make the ethridge TN M&G. Thank you all for everything you did yesterday.
To the family of JD, all you need, all you want, we will try as a group to provide with in our power. Collectively, we were 225 bikes and about 250 people strong. We represented 50,000 hearts aching for the loss of JD. Words aren't going to bring him back, nor will actions. However, I hope we were able to provide you with some small comfort, and support.
The flag his mom was given was delivered by US Navy Hospital Corpsmen. Doc as we are known by, hates funerals. We hate them because it means we failed. I lost a good friend, just couldn't do anyting for him. to this day, I feel like despite it being beyond my control, I still feel the sting of failure.
Yet, I know with out being there that the first DOC that got to JD and others involved did everything they were taught to do, everything they thought would work and pulled as many tricks from their bag labled experinece as they could. I am proud to be called DOC alongside these heros.
It was an honor to render a final salute to LCPL James D. Hirlston USMC. There are many memories.
The towns folk joining us at the entrance to the cemetary, the quivering lower lip of the Marine PFC assigned to the ceremonial firing squad, the two girls who, upon seeing all our flags as they drove into the cemetary and burst into tears (from that moment on I was an emotional basket case inside), to the waitress who told me she was proud of us at Logan's.
I also will never forget MR Hay. His son was killed in action and he rides with us (some one said on his son's bike). MR Hay, we are humbled and deeply honored to have you with us and believe me, you will be with me forever when I attend these. I love you sir. I will seek you out each time, just to check on you.
I want to again thank the family for allowing us to be there.
Dreamcatcher you did well. The coordination between PGR regulars and all the other groups was incredible. I don't remember them all so out of respect I will mention no one group by name.
You all rode under PGR guidelines and not with your own agendas. I am proud to be a cager among such bikers of character and quality. Don't worry, your secret is safe, I'll never tell any one I saw a big biker cry.
I'm a cager thinking very hard of converting, you all have made such an impact on me and dispelled some fears of riding for me. I turn 45 in July next year, the goal is to ride by then!
I digress, back on track: Thank you to the long haired Ranger patch, beret wearing man in tigerstriped shirt. I was crying into your shoulder briefly and you simply held me til I was done. I don't know your name, but I look forward to seeing you again.
Everyone on the front entrance with me -- your presence there was awe inspiring for many. The family and friends as well as our folks all saw you. I made it a point to shake your hands prior to the funeral, because I believe the front gate is the most dramatic sight for the family. This one was perfect. I especially want to thank the mother and daughter for the signs they brought. It gave me an idea for future missions.
Local Law Enforcement as usual did the job very well. I was completely blown away by the bikes, the cars all with bar lights going and you all standing in front of them saluting. I had my back to you but I heard the commands from your leader so I know. We can not do these missions on this large a scale with out you and your brothers and sisters acrossthe nation. We in the PGR really do appreciate you all. If I missed shaking your hand yesterday my apolgies. I thought I got you all.
Rest well folks, rehydrate, and allow the emotions to flow. My last act was to fix the small hand held flag on JDs grave, three young girls were sitting there when I did it. I fixed the flag, got it to stand upright, saluted the flag one last time, turned and walked off, with tears flowing. At that point I wanted to get in my truck and let it go. One of the girls came rushing to me and hugged me and just kept saying "we love you all, let everyone know". Young lady, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

This was a Mission that will be forever etched in my mind. As I rode into the staging area, what a sight. As we stood at the Safety Briefing, and assembled on the road, I walked the Bike line (counting) the pride of the Patriots, was very evident. I was stopped so many times for folks to just say hello. I chose to be in the cemetary flag lineup, and it was awsome, I would like to say to the Mother of the young folks with flags, you are a wonderful mother to teach your children flag decorum and respect. To each and every one who made the mission, you are appreciated not only by the family, the community, but the Patriot Guard. We got er done, and with Class. To the LEO's your service for us was outstanding. The Fire Deptl. Thanks . To the Community, It is always something else when a fallen HERO is honored by those he knew. God bless each and every one of you. It was a long trip home, the tears finally dried somewhere in Georgia. I have one lodged in my heart for a Marine Lance Cpl. James D Hirlston.
