I was contacted by the representitive for the family, and he has invited the PGR to attend, with the full support of the family.
There are two facets to this mission, the first in Redmond, at the fair grounds, the other at Willamette National Cemetery, in Portland.
I was able to draft/appoint "Roper", Lou (a-really-big-last-name-that-I-can't-remember...) as ride captain in Central Oregon for the services to be held at the Deschutes County fairgrounds. This will be a very important detail to organize, although an easy one. The time is still in question, but the date is set as Tuesday, August 29th, 2006. Please give Lou all the help you can. He'll be posting a ride plan for Redmond shortly.
For the detail at WNC, I'll be handling that portion of the mission, set for the following day, 30 August, nominally at 1300 (1:00 PM). Details soon to follow...
If you live in, or plan to be in Central or Southern Oregon on the 29th, please do what you can to help out the as-yet-unnamed-ride captain in his or her efforts.
Folks in closer proximity to WNC & Latus Motors, be prepared for a late-morning rally time on the 30th.
I know that things have been rather harried & hectec, what with all of the "special" missions that we have been doing recently, and that most of you are already, or soon to be, out ov vacation days. Like I try to make everyone understand, If you can't, that's allright. Do the ones you can do. This is what we signed up for, my friends. A young man, killed in action, performing his duty to protect and defend the USA, albeit in a foreign land. We owe him this. No less. So, please, do what you can to honor this hero of America.
Always your faithful servant...

Outside of a DMV appointment Tuesday morning, I'm open both days; depending on what's happening when and where, I will try to make the trip to Redmond but will need to ride in my cage. Wednesday at WNC, I will be at for sure.

RIDE ITINERARY FOR TUESDAY AUGUST 29
This update is concerning the first part of this mission to take place on Aug 29, 1100 hrs in Redmond at the Hooker Creek Convention Center, Deschutes County Fairgrounds.
We are staging at 0945 hrs in the Northeast corner of Fred Meyer parking lot in Redmond. Kickstands up at 1000 hrs. We will exit the Fred Meyer parking lot on the west side turning left on SW Veterans Way. Proceed .3 miles to South Canal Boulevard, go right staying straight on Canal Blvd for 2.8 miles to Yew Avenue. There is a 4 way stop on Yew Avenue, go left under the underpass for Hwy 97 to the North entrance of the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and proceed to the parking area. Total distance is 3.5 miles with a elapsed time of 10 minutes. Once at the fairgrounds we will proceed to the entrance for the Hooker Creek Convention Center and line the walk with flags, honoring the family and friends.
I have a chase vehicle lined up with water and Gator Aid, weather forcast looks good for Tuesday at this point with a high of 75 -80 partially sunny skies.
Directions to Fred Meyer parking lot: From the North on Hwy 97 South, coming thru Redmond, the 4th light is SW Highland Avenue, stay right lane, go straight 100 yds to the turnoff for Fred Meyer, cross frontage road, go into parking lot, you'll see us in the Northeast corner.
From the South on Hwy 97 Northbound, coming into Redmond, stay left land, 2nd light is SW Veterans Way, go left approximately .4 miles to the 1st light, turn right into Fred Meyer parking lot, proceed to the Northeast corner.
I'll have more details on Monday after meeting with the Incidence Response officer for the Redmond Police Dept.

Any information yet about transport to WNC? If by aircraft, will there be a need for escort or, if by land, a place to join in?
I won't be able to make it to Redmond but I am standing by in Troutdale.

The transport will be done quietly, by hearse. If anyone wishes to ride with the hearse & family, please file in behind everyone, and be unobtrusive. (We were specifically asked to NOT attempt an escort for LCpl Newman, as it may have been simply too large an operation, what with fuel stops & all)
If you choose to go, please:
Respect safety honor

Teressa and I will make every effort to be in Redmond for the services. I plan to overnite and be as unobtrusive as possible on Wednesday. Since some of you know how utterly close to impossible that is for me, all comments must be forgone. Matt, trying to be nice as: |
