Update: I'm still trying to get confirmation from National on the family contact. I have tried the phone number of who I think the parents are but do not get an answer. I'm also trying through the listed 'news media' contacts. This is just to keep everyone on board and let you know I am working on confirmation of a mission. As soon as I receive more details I will assign a Mission Ride Captain and communicate additional information.

24 Aug 2006 6:19 AM Alert

I want to start by saying that I did not know Cpl. Adam Galvez myself, but I know his mother, Amy, from the parents' and spouses' website for the 3rd LAR Marine Battalion, my own son also being in the 3rd LAR. I was therefore aware of a little bit of Adam's story, and the part that I want to write about is short but telling:

Several weeks ago Cpl. Galvez was very close to an explosion that killed four of his fellow Marines. He himself was wounded in that attack.

I have never been a soldier in battle, but I *have* lived through terrible violence and I can say this much with certainty: It leaves a mark on you. I am not sure that I would have had the courage to go back in to fight again, but Adam Galvez did have the courage. He picked himself up, got patched up, and got back into the fight. And THAT is the stuff of heroes.

I have no doubt that Adam is at peace now, God being infinitely merciful to heroes. I can only hope that Amy and the rest of Adam's family will soon find peace too.

Truly, another sad occasision. First, My condolences to the family, and may they know the sacrifice Adam has made will never be forgotten.
I'm keeping a watch for the mission. Another big thank you to our Captains for all the hard work they do in putting these rides together. I know it's a very stressful time for the family. When my daughter was killed I had no idea what I was doing, and would not have made it through without the support I had.
I thought I heard on Fox 13 news the Galvez family was planning on participating in the support rally on Wednesday., so I thought the services would probably be Tuesday, but I see now that it still could be either Tuesday or Wednesday. A few of us will have to leave TDY on Wednesday, so if we can't make it we are with you and the family in spirit.

Kelly and I will definitely be there to honor this brave hero and show support and appreciation for the Galvez family.

In the short time I have had to learn about Adam and his parents, I have gained a tremendous respect for this family.  They have given so much and have worked so hard to support our troops and to try to rally others to show their support to counteract the negative impact of the vocal few who always seem to get the media's attention.

Thank you Galvez family for your extreme sacrifice.  While mourning for your loss, we also know that Adam's heroism and honorable service will not be forgotten.

Very Respectfully,

Keep up the good work, Bruce. And don't worry. It will all work out.
If the funeral is either Tuesday or Wednesday, I'll load up the trunk of the Saturn and drive in from the Vernal area. If anyone along the way needs a ride, please e-mail or message.
