My condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Burkes. I hope that the good Lord above sees you all through your times of grief and allows you to smile and laugh as you think of the good times you had with him while he was on this earth. Rest assured that he is in a better place now where there is no pain.
To the men and women of the Autauga Co. Sherrifs Office, you will all remain in my thoughts and prayers during this time. You are all truely unsung heroes of the country and you all have my deepest respect. May God bless you all and keep you safe.

Today during the fourth annual memorial ride in honor of a young lady who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, approximately 155 motorcycles and riders stopped in front of the Autauga County Courthouse and Jail complex, shut off our engines, dismounted, and stood for a moment of silence in honor of Sgt Micah Burkes, Autauga County Deputy Sheriff. Tomorrow, as Patriot Guard Riders, many of us, including national officers and brothers of the In Country Vets MC, will be proud to join with the Blue Knights and other law enforcement personnel in honoring Sgt Burkes, and escorting him to his final rest.

My sincere condolences go out to the family of sgt. Burkes. May the Lord be with the family during this time. My prayer would be that the Lord watch over all of our LEO's ,who in my opinion don't get the full respect they deserve for putting their lives on the line for us every day.
May GOD bless all LEO's, the PGR and our Troops

Sport & ICV Animal home - safe, sound, and damp around the edges.
We have all heard or seen on the news the turnout that law enforcement and firefighters have in support of one of their fallen brothers, but until you are part of it, and experience it firsthand, you really have no idea. Military funerals don't command the response that police and firefighter funerals do, and I have attended many, both while on active duty and in the years since, most recently with PGR. The only comparison I can make is to a funeral for a well known or ranking patchholder in a major MC. This was the first law enforcement funeral I have been a part of, and it was an awesome honor, in part because there generally isn't a close relationship between traditional motorcycle clubs and law enforcement; but more so because the Sheriff specifically asked that PGR ride in the honor position at the head of the procession. Of course there were the uniformed motor officers leading, and then a contingent of Blue Knights, rightfully so. Following them was a contingent of the "diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation" that make up the PGR. Several states were represented, not just local PGR riders, and not all were even veterans - but they came to honor the memory of a fallen defender of our lives. There were police officers, sheriff's deputies, district attorneys, state troopers, and others there. Many walked over and thanked us for being there, for showing our support, for just caring. What I saw PGR do today by simply, quietly, and respectfully being there with our flags, did more for the image of 'bikers' than any Madison Avenue agency, or major motorcycle manufacturer could ever do. What the massed number of law enforcement officers from so many different agencies from across the state witnessed, along with the citizens of that county and city, was beyond comparison. To those who think we should only be there for active duty deaths, or just veterans, you seriously need to rethink your position. What happened today in Clanton, Alabama by the "diverse amalgamation of riders" will not soon be forgotten by those who witnessed it, or participated in it. God hold Sgt Micah Burkes in his care, he is risen.

In response to Animal's Post, I would like to say that PGR stood out among the finest this day and I can't express how proud I was of the PGR that was in attendance to pay respects to this fallen LEO. Being of the LEO family, I want to say that all of you made a great impression on the Law Enforcement community this day and I assure you, it will not be forgotten. All of you made a lot of good points for motorcycle riders and Biker Clubs and as I said, it will be remembered. It was very gratifying to see members from other states in attendance, and the various clubs that were represented. Thank you all for another great outpouring of respect and honor for Sgt. Burkes and his family. I hope all of you have a SAFE and great day. |

This was my first mission and I am not even sure at this point how to put in to words how honored I felt to be allowed to participate in this mission. Saturday night I was on this site, still an non-member, and I was reading the beginning of this post and I knew it was time to give back some to the people who are willing to put their lives on the line day after day for people who they do and don't know, for people who would shoot them in the back or shake their hand from the front. I am not a veteran nor am I in Law Enforcement, while a good bit of the people where I work are retired out of one branch or another so I guess I feel connected with the Services but to me it is an elite group and I feel like I have always been on the outside looking in, if you will. All the stories and experiences I will only know from conversations rather than have "walked the talk". However, honor, sacrifice and loyalty are qualities I strive for and I guess this Funeral today, blew me away. I can not express the level of sympathy I feel for the family and friends of this fallen Officer. I never met him, knew little about him, and may never know anything more about him than I do at this writing. But I do know he earned, deserves and commands my respect as would anyone who has dedicated their lives to serve country and community. I think the magnitude of this funeral hit me when we pulled out of the bank in formation and rolled down the street as escort. I looked back in my rear view mirror and my heart just about jumped up into my throat. The reality of and the honor associated with being part of the escort for Sgt. Micah Burkes went through me like a jolt of electricity. I am still running the events of today over and over in my mind as this had a profound impact. I will never forget this first mission as long as I live and I humbly thank all those who participated, accepted and welcomed me. And I thank the family and all others for allowing me to be a part of this day. I rolled in to Nashville, TN about 9:30. Long Day. Good day and Good night.

This has been an absolutely amazing day! After the service Sashockeymom, Cat, I and a few others took cover in a car wash until the lightning passed. I am a pretty brave person, but I don't fight God in His power. It was getting too close for me. Cat was very understanding and waited it out with us. We stopped and ate and sashockeymom, Roberttga & I headed home. On I-85 N, the lightning got started again. Sashockeymom & I pulled over to put the rain gear on again. Roberttga headed on home. We rode about 5-10 miles and the bottom fell out, the wind as blowing and the lightning was putting on a show. Sashockeymom found us an underpass/overpass so we could wait it out. We waited a while & headed off again. We ran into more rain, but no lightning. When we reached Phenix City I got more gas and Sashockeymom & I parted. I ran into more rain and a little wind before I got to Reynolds. I was still worried about the dirt road I have to ride up to get to my house. It was clear so I made it home without dropping the bike. Each one of these missions I go on I feel more comfortable with the PGR members. There is so much going on at these missions, it is difficult to get to know anyone at first. To the newcomers I say, give it time. I felt like an outsider at first. I did not know what to expect on these missions. I have learned these missions are solemn occasion and a time to reflect on our own lives. It is also a time to connect and reconnect with our fellow members of PGR. What a great bunch of people. Thanks for letting me be a small part it this group. I don't feel as if I do enough, I just ride, show up and hold a flag. It is the best way I know to show honor and respect for our fallen heroes. Thank you sashockeymom for being a great front door and roberttga for being a great tailgunner and water boy. Thanks again to all. Gail |

I'm about brain-fried and saddle sore...Eagle 1 and I made it home just before midnight after skirtin' several thunder-boomers on the way back...nothin' serious thankfully...mostly enjoyed the road spray...
Proud to be there...honored to stand among Sgt. Burke's family, friends, and brothers...and blessed to be once again with our own brothers and sisters on another mission...
My sincere and deeply heartfelt condolences to the Burke family...

Regretfully, I was unable to attend this mission. I was out of town and didn't know about it until I kept seeing PGR banners and knew something short notice had come up. Ran into some of our North Alabama folks and found out what was going on. Wish I could have turned around and went back down south but had already come from Gulf Shores and had family tired and wanting to get home.
Rest in peace SGT Burkes.

| Being both a co-worker of Sgt Burks and a close personal friend, I too was in awe of the events of that day. Never before have I seen such compassion and respect for anyone. As you know, this was my first experience of a fallen officer and it has affected me in more ways than anyone will ever know. Sgt Burks was well known in this county and is greatly missed by many. I just want to say THANK YOU to you, as well as all of those involved with the events between August 12th and August 20th, for your concern, compassion and caring that not only I received, but the family received during that time. It was an honor for me to be by his and Mikey's side at the hospital for those 5 days. I know they would have done the same for me. It comforts me to know that Mike is watching over us all now, there is no more worry, no more pain, and he is in the arms of God. I know I have a Guardian Angel who loved me, and that nothing can ever change that. Memories of him will be with me forever, he will always be in my heart, and I will keep his memory alive forever. I talked to him on several occasions about a poem I have about people coming into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Even though Mike's earthly presence is gone, he fits all three categories in my book. I know the reason, he was with me for a season, and his spirit lives on with me for a lifetime. God Bless You Mike Burks, you were one of a kind and I miss you dearly and will always love you. Rest in peace until I see you again someday. |

| Being both a co-worker of Sgt Burks and a Patriot Guard member, this was more then I could handle. The parade of patrol cars and motorcycles was a site that moved many that day. I understand that this was a first for the Patriot Guard and Blue Knights in escorting a fallen Law enforcement Officer to his final resting place. If the need should arise again, I pray the call is answered. |

It has been such an honor to all of us to be a part of the final farewell for Sgt. Micah Burkes. Please know that the sacrifice’s made by Micah and his family will not be forgotten. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sgt. Burkes family, fellow officers and friends. We pray for peace and comfort to each of you in the days to come. Thank you Sgt. Burkes for your service, may you rest in peace.
First I want to thank Paul Reynolds, of the Blue Knights and our newest Alabama Ride Captain. Had he not contacted Snap to request PGR to assist the Blue Knights in this escort, we would not have had this privilege of honoring Sgt. Burkes.
Next I would like to thank Sheriff Herbie Johnson of Autauga County, all Law Enforcement Officers, the Blue Knights, Attorney General Troy King, Mayor Byard of Prattville, the funeral home and all fellow PGR for all your assistance and attendance in honoring this precious fallen hero.
A special thank you to Robert Thompson (water dude/tailgunner) God Bless you. Thanks for keeping us all cooled down with your ice-cold water on such a beautiful sunny day!
Also to Winn Dixie of Clanton for their support and use of their parking lot!!!!!
Thank you to our PGR members who journeyed out of state to join us, bless you and we hope your ride home was safe.
Thank you, each and everyone~ without ALL of you this mission would not have been the success that it was.
