USMC Sgt Stephen Carpenter was killed Sunday July 30 while riding a jetski near San Diego, CA. Carpenter, a 2 tour Iraqi Freedom vet was having R & R with his family when the incident occured. He was seen riding the jetski, then about 5 minutes later was found by a boater floating face down in the water, the jetski showing no signs of being crashed. Cause of death is pending the completion of an autopsy.

This Marine has ties to New Mexico, as his mother is a Blue Star Mother. He was recently married in CA, and services are set for 8 Aug 2006 at the Miller Jones Mortuary in Sun City, CA, and burial at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.

This is currently a Pending Mission, awaiting contact with the family. As mentioned before, Sgt Carpenter has ties to New Mexico, and Ride Captain Norton Rolfe is attempting to make contact with the family. Once contact and approval is acquired, Norton will pass the information along. Please keep the family of Sgt Carpenter in your prayers as they endure this difficult time.

Joe,

I'm assuming your post means the Church service will be at 1000 and the graveside will be at 1200.

I'll try to re-arrange a meeting I have scheduled for Tuesday so I can make it.

I'll arrange to bring some mission memorial dog tags to the mission. Do we have anyone willing to volunteer to make up a condolence book for the family of Sgt. Carpenter?

Tony

Per the mother's request, Rio Grande Valley BSM's will present a Gold Star to the Mom and family in Albuquerque after the funeral. The date, time and place are to be determined by the mother after her return to Albuquerque. I will keep Potsie, Norton & Cruzerr updated as information is available or changes occur.

Our prayers are with the Coleman and Carpenter family ~ Stephen is one of America's heroes and his job was well done.

Does anyone happen to know how old Sgt. Carpenter was? I'm getting the ride memorial dog tags ordered and I need to know his birth year so we can include it on the tag. Rose is on jury duty this week so hopefully she will be able to get the tags done before the mission.

Thanks,

Tony

RingLord,

Newspaper report says 26 yrs old but no actual birthdate. Still Checking.

Perhaps an email to GingerBSM above will provide the answer.

I have emailed her and try to get back an answer asap.
