Respect for the military has sometimes been lost. This should not happen again....ever.

The hero is one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by.

The following is information from the Herald Standard, the local Brownsville newspaper:

"...details are not yet complete, there are plans for a memorial ceremony on Aug. 2 at Fort Bragg, N.C., then visitation at the Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington, Va. On Thursday, Aug. 3. Hustava said there would be private visitation for the family members at the funeral home, as well as visitation for members of the military. According to the funeral home, there will be public visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Aug. 3, with burial services at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 4."

I have notified the VA SC and have turned it over to him.

God Bless Christopher's family and my condolences to them.  This news hit me hard because of two things.  I live pretty close to Christopher's home town and my son is also currently serving with the 37th Engineer Battalion (Airborne) in Afghanistan.

We owe so much to these soldiers and you will not be forgotten.

Status Update:

Frank B. asked me to be the RC on the Arlington National Cemetery portion of this mission, should it develop. I have initiated contact with the Public Affairs Officer at Ft Bragg NC -  to get the name and contact information of the CAO.

1st Sgt Rafferty's brother-in-law, reacting to posts on this forum,  has confirmed that the services will be as follows:
-- 01 Aug - Memorial Service in Ft Bragg, NC
-- 03 Aug - Visitation in Arlington Va
-- 04 Aug - 1300 Internment at Arlington National Cemetery

I have been in contact with the PA and NC State Officers, and they have agreed that I will carry the ball to contact the CAO and move things forward.

More information will be posted as this moves forward.

If a mission does develop, I will be the RC for the Arlington Cemetery portion, and an RC will be assigned for NC, as appropriate.

I've never met a better man than 1SG Christopher Rafferty. He sacrificed everything he had for his family, and in service with the Army to our great nation. We've lost a true brother warrior, a great friend, and one of the funniest men I know. I feel blessed to know him, and was lucky to be family. Chris held nothing back and I am certain no regrets with his l life. I love you Chris.
