Brothers,

The Veterans Brotherhood MC is willing to help with this endeavor. Some of us are still affiliated with the Base, I'm a retired CMSgt (E-9), from the Security Forces and will help in any way that I can.

It is possible that these Marines may be going to their unit in Dayton, so they may need an escort once thay leave Wright-Patt.

Poleclimber : Touch base with Cory, he works at the Dispatch Center and can contact the Wright Riders riding club on base. It was seeing you, and riding with on on the 4th.

Standing By!

Standing by in Hamilton Oh. I will happily be there for a homecoming celebration to honor these brave Marines. I have been on base (WPAFB) a couple of times lately and they didn't push the issue of gloves or vest, not to say they don't or won't. They are strict about M/C endorsement, registration and proof of insurance though to get a pass. With this much advance notice there should be a great turnout and any problems of getting on base ironed out.

Doc - Good man for stepping up to take the lead on this. I will attend if at all possble. If you need any assistance with the planning or getting a bulk e-mail out to OH/IN/KY once the date firms up, just let me know. This is your show, but you can count on me for any assistance I can give.

Doc,

Is there any chance this could be done at the Air Force Museum parking lot?  There is no restrictions for riders so everyone could participate (no ids, no clothing requirements, etc) since the museum is not on the base and is open to the public.

Just a thought.

Dave,

You can count me in on this event. I had the pleasure of shaking the hand of one of our heroes for protecting our freedoms at the LAX baggage claim in LA Monday. His Mom and Dad started to cry and thanked me for what I did. I had to leave because as we all know “Tears” are contagious.

I talked with the RT prez last night and he has some contacts also at the base. As we continue to get the info it will be posted here. I do remember him saying he sent out an e-mail asking for someone to pickup the ball to go to WP and get all the info together on requirements and where we can get to for the welcome home. Here is what I got via e-mail from Poleclimber.

Doc

I sent this to most of you already. If I missed you on the first round I am
sorry. We have had a great response from everyone. I have heard the
following suggestions.

Color Gaurds: I would like to see as many of these units there as possible.
VFW, AMVETS, Legions, Rolling Thunder, etc.

Wright Pat: They will be landing there so we need to get cleared there to
meet them. Anyone up for the challenge?

Welcome Home/Thank You shirts: Some sort of design to present to each
returning person.

Food: Invite them and their families to a pre-determined place and serve
them dinner, breakfest, or whatever depending on when they land here.

Preperation: Some have suggested a pre-meeting or two to make this a class
act.

Please keep the feedback coming. I will keep everyone posted as I hear from
Bernie.
Thanks for caring,

As luck would have it, I work in the Wright-Patterson Public Affairs office.  Since the more notice we get on things, the better, I will bring this ride up to my supervisor tomorrow morning.  I'm not in a position to say yes or no, but I will let you know what they say and more exact requirements for base access if approved.  Please keep me updated as you get information.  My duty email is andrew.hafey@wpafb.af.mil .  Please send me an email as I can't access the PG forums from my office.  Thanks!!!

What you are doing is about all we can do until we get further details as to date and time. I will copy this post to your duty addy so that you now. If the details can be worked out such as requirments for acces to post and how close we will be able to get for the welcome home would be great. I know this could be family only access, but then are we not all family when it comes to the support of our men and women?

Just a quick update...I've talked to my boss and it should not be a problem getting riders on base.  Plan on having to meet the requirements to get on base (helmet, registration, insurance, etc), however, I am working a possibility of getting around that requirement.  It probably won't happen, but it's worth asking.  Most likely, if I can work it, I'll need a general list of names of the riders (we know there will be last minute changes, that shouldn't be a problem) and a few other current/retired military that can be listed as sponsers (can also be riders).  I'll let you know what I find out.

I'm working on how close to the aircraft I can get you and areas for possible setup (again, much easier if I can get an approximate head count).  There will be a ton of local media most likely so it should be rather close as they will be probably be pretty close.

Does anyone know of a local area USMC point of contact for this arrival?  We (Public Affairs) are going to need to get in touch with them sometime in the next 2 or 3 weeks to get some information.

Any additional information that anyone can get me would be greatly appreciated as it will help me get things done a lot quicker.

That's it for now.  Again, I'll keep everyone updated as I get information.
