Hello PGR’s;
First I want to say what an Honor and Privilege it was to ride with you this past Saturday for PO1 Tharp. It’s very hard to pick a moment that stands out the most other then when the announcement came that they were in Aledo and the wind picked up putting all the flags in full sail remaining so till PO1 Tharp arrived. God Bless you all for selecting such a mission in life that no one else is willing to do.
Some or most of you have been seeing threads about a Special Mission called the Fallen Soldiers Healing Field. I am the wife of iowaseabee and the president of QC (Quad Cities) Families In Support of Troops. This is the third year for this memorial that honors all our Fallen Soldiers from Afghanistan and Iraq. Since we are in a conflict about terrorism we can not host this remembrance without including all 3,031 fatalities from September 11, 2001. This memorial is a four day event run much in the same as the traveling Viet Nam Wall. The site is open 24 hours a day and lighted at night. There are 102 – 15 ft poles with Casket Flags flying from them, each one will represent up to 30 Fallen Soldiers. There is 26 banners that is the back drop to this triangle shaped flag lay out, which host all 3,031 names of September 11, 2001 fatalities. In the front of this display are two more special flags, the Gold Star and Lest They Be Forgotten Flag. You can see this flag and read about its conception on our website www.qcfist.org. Go into the links page and click on the Lest They Be Forgotten page. Now this is where PGR is going to play an integral part in this year’s memorial at Opening Ceremony on August 17th. Ride captain Preach will be the one to give you the run down on this as it is his vision from an idea thrown out there at our last meeting. You can see pictures from previous Healing Fields on the website as well. Now we have had a wonderful response from a number of you already, several of you from distances that still blow me away. With that came the idea and request for camping costs and hotel costs. Well the following is what I have been able to work out thus far. For those wanting hotel accommodations, Heartland Inn has blocked out 10 rooms which normally run $80.00 a night, we have them for $ 40.00 + tax. Now she said we could put 4 to a room if we needed to. This block begins the evening of the 16th and ends the 20th and if need be will extend check out beyond 11:00 Am. for those needing it. Camping facilities around here are limited but the closest is West Lake is on the west end of town right off a major highway. The other one is Scott County Park which is about 8 – 10 miles from town and full of deer. The following rates are for both places: Non Electrical Site $ 11.00 @ night Electrical Site $ 14.00 @ night Electrical & Water $ 15.00 @ night
I am looking forward to meeting all those attending tomorrow nights, Tuesday, July 25th’s meeting, as well as those signing up on line or by phone. For those of you interested in a sign up packet, just email me name an address and I will shoot it out in the mail next day. My email is bwheeler@mchsi.com
If you need directions just shoot us an email with what direction you are coming from and we will provide you with the best route possible.

For anyone that is interested in reading names at the candlelight vigil on August 17th there will be a special meeting at the Davenport Knights of Columbus Hall 1111 W. 35th St. on Sunday August 6th at 4:00 P.M. We will hand out your list so you have time to go over the names and answer any questions you may have. If you are unable to make this meeting but would still like to participate in the name reading let us know and we can make other arrangements. Please understand that if you volunteer for this we will look at this as a firm commitment because we want to be sure to have an even distribution of names and plenty of time to get familiar with the list you are reading. Some names can be a little difficult to pronounce if you are not familiar with them and we strive to be as accurate as possible.

I have replied to this thread once expressing interest and have been tracking this thread since the first post. I am currently in the Middle East so I can not attend any meeting's or receive the beforementioned info packet. I am still interested and depending on work schedule may be available on Thurs morning as well as the original dates and times from my first post. I do not have flag capabilities but will help out as needed. I will be standing by for specifics and will keep checking this thread.

Keith, When will you be back in the area? The original post has the volunteer positions and duty descriptions. Is there anything you would like to be signed up for specifically or just where we need you the most? Bobbie should have replied to you by email also. Steve

I have an update on a couple of things. If anyone that can make it to Davenport this Sunday any time between 2 and 6 P.M. we are having a training session for tent duty, field guides and name readers. We will be at the Knights of Columbus Hall again. If you can make it any time during this time frame we will have someone there to go over your responsibilities for each detail. If you are reading names and can't make it let us know so we can email your lists to you so you have time to become familiar with the names. If you are in need of directions don't hesitate to ask. I will do my best to get you to the right place. Remember Seabees Can Do! Steve

Good Afternoon Fellow PGR's,
I have the information you will need in making Hotel Reservations and receive the special rate of $40.00 @ night at Heartland Inn, 6605 N. Brady St., Davenport, Iowa, (563) 386-8336. When placing your reservations ask for the block of rooms under Wheeler Party and you will receive this special rate. They gave us a block of ten rooms. If you have any problems just give a call and I will get it taken care of. This block begins on August 16th and run through the 20th. Can't thank those coming to help us enoung to make this Memorial what it is meant to be, no matter how far or near you may be traveling, the appreciation is all the same as well as a Thank You for your service to those that have served, as this is for you too. Take care.

Confirmations needed ASAP For Riders who have volunteered to ride during Opening Ceremonies on the morning of the 17th the answer is yes, you are needed. Please post a confirmation here or email me so I can get a count of BIKES only. If you are carrying a passenger that's OK, I just need to know how many bikes we will have from the PGR .
Also, on the evening of Wed, the 16th, Riders will have a rehearsal for the ride in and posting of the Flag For the Fallen. We need as many confirmed riders as possible to work out the details of the plan. Afterwards, we plan on going to the Iowa Machine Shed for dinner to discuss the ride, other PGR issues and share some "down time". I need to know 1) if you can attend this rehearsal 2) what time is best for you and 3) if you want to go to the Shed for dinner. (so I can make reservations)
Once I have the above listed info, a finalized intinerary will be posted here.
Ride safe,

Count me in for the rehearsal. I'm thinking that 1800/1830 would work best for me, but may be able to get there as early as 1730. I'll let you know on the dinner. I don't have a way to attach flags to my ride att. Do we need to bring any with us though?

Preach, I will be there for the rehersal. I will probably be getting in around 1500-1530 then check into a hotel with arrival at the rehersal site around 1600-1630. I would like to go to the Machine Shed for dinner. I will be riding for the opening ceremony on the 17th. I do not know if I can get a large (3x5) flag mount ready by then but I will bring just my flag in case it is needed.

Scott, Since I will not be needed the morning of the 16th in Davenport, I can leave at 0700 the 16th and meet you in Des Moines around 1100-1130. Since I've never been to Des Moines, please make the meeting place somewhere close by the freeway. I'll be coming in on the 80. My cell is (760) 900-0154. You can let me know yours if this plan works for you.

ITINERARY UPDATE;
