Today we said good-by to our brother, Lee Box, who was killed Saturday on his motorcycle when a LINDE tanker truck failed to yield the Right Of Way at the triangle where hwy 16 meets hwy 29 south of Newnan.  ABATE Chaplain Ralph Snyder presided over the services at McKoons funeral home on Jackson St.  Following the service an eighty motorcycle procession lead by the Patriot Guard Riders rode to the accident site, and attached a flowered cross and crossed US and POW motorcycle flags to the yield sign on the end of the triangle that points to the east.

ENTHUSIASTIC---OPTIMISTIC---HELPFUL---CONGENIAL---KIND---DEDICATED---INTELLIGENT---CHEERFUL---PASSIONATE

These are just a few of the words that describe our brother Lee Box to whom we bade farewell today.  A young man full of life---a life snuffed out by a tanker truck driver who failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle....  there should be a law-----????**

Lee was an accomplished rider---he has recently completed a motorcycle safety couse that qualified him to teach motorcycle awareness in driver ed and driver improvement clinics.  He and I both believed we have a RIGHT to be "in the wind"  without being harassed and threated by CELL PHONE TALKING--MAP READING--COFFEE DRINKING--BIG MAC EATING--------------you get my drift--------------------unconscious motorists that refuse to share the road with motorcycles!!!!!

** There is a bill that has been proposed  HB--82   Presently this bill is STUCK in the Motor Vehicle Committee  where they are "discussing" whether it warrants being submitted to the floor to be voted on by our representatives and becoming a law.

I am attaching two links where you will be able to enter Georgia legislative site and 1) examine HB-82 and 2 ) observe the Motor Vehicle Committee members.  If you click on a members name --their picture will come up along with their addresses--home and at the capitol, phone numbers etc.

WE NEED TO LET THEM KNOW WE WANT AND NEED A LAW THAT PUTS SOME TEETH IN THE PENALTIES FOR   R.O.W. VIOLATIONS.

“In Memory of Lee Box”

"Life is but a prelude to death, death is but a prelude to eternity." Author, Lee Box.

On January 14, 2006, Lee Box passed from this world into eternity, surrounded by his loved ones. Lee is gone, but his passion for life will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Lee was born and raised in Brunswick, Georgia. Upon graduation from high school, he enrolled in the U.S. Air Force and served as a staff sergeant for 8 years, fulfilling a childhood dream of serving the country for which he was so proud. During his military service, Lee earned a degree from Embry Riddle in Avionics, and upon separation from the military, went to work for Delta Airlines. Lee was employed by Delta as a lead mechanic for the last 15 years.

Lee had a passion for helping others. He served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Special Olympics, CORRAL Therapeutic Riding Center, March of Dimes and BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse).

Lee was a "Hero" to many. He lived his life honestly and openly. His wish for those left behind would be for them to take care of each other, to be kind and caring to all and to follow their dreams -- live life, love life.

Lee is survived by his partner and love, Noel Christopher of Newnan; his Mother and Dad, Brenda and Richard Howell of Brunswick, GA; his Father, J. L. Box of Carrollton, GA; brothers, Seth Box, Jeff Howell, Clay Box, all of Brunswick; and sister, Brandi Rodriquez of Washington, D.C.; grandparents, Bonnie Mosely and Doris Howell of Brunswick, GA. Lee was the favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews.

McKoon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family received friends Monday, Jan. 16, from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mckoon.com.

In memory of Lee, his family requests flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Angel's House in Newnan, Georgia, or your local shelter for battered women and abused children. This is a cause Lee was very passionate about.

"Inner sunshine warms not only the heart of the owner, but all who come in contact with it." Author, Lee Box.

It's one thing to escort a fallen warrior to his final rest. It's entirely different when that escort is for a brother and a friend.

A typical winter day in Georgia. Overcast skies and threatening rains did nothing to deter eighty bikes from Lee's memorial. We assembled in a parking lot behind the local MaCdonalds, for the short ride to the Funeral Chapel. The services were conducted by our own Chuck Dodson. After the usual homilies and preaching, several of Lee's close friends spoke of him. They related anecdotes and experiences that drew laughter from the crowd. It was, in all respects, a fitting memorial and testament to an exceptionaly popular and a very good man.

By the time the services were concluded, the threatening skies had turned to rain. Undaunted, we rode the several miles to the accident scene on the outskirts of town. The local police provided excellent traffic control, even to the extent of patrolmen on foot guarding intersections. A local Deputy Sherriff, whose name I didn't get had volunteered his off duty time to assist and lead the pack.

At the intersection where Lee had lost his life, a large cross of flowers and American and POW flags were secured on a pole in full view of passersby. Short speeches by Yankee and my Co Captain (Jim George aka bro jim), some of Lee's friends proceded to Noel's home for further rememberances. The most dangerous part, IMO, was leaving that intersection safely. Assisted byt the fore mentioned Deputy Sherriff and a few others, we managed to block traffic enough to ensure everyone's saftey. As State Captain, safety for all riders is one of my biggest concerns.

As I stood there in the falling rain, I found my self asking... "why am I here? Why do I stand in the rain and get soaked to the bone to honor a fallen Bro?" After all, my Co Captain along with Yankee and Chuck Dodson were there. I thought to myself... "they're just as capable". The answer made itself apparent as the crowd began to disperse.

From the throng of mourners, an attractive, blonde lady approached and touched my arm. She drew her face close to mine and softly kissed my Cheek. With a tear in her eye and in a barely audible voice, Lee Box's Mom simply said... "Thank You."

I promised myself I wouldn't ask that question again.

RIP LEE BOX

Mission Accomplished Sir.

Nice job Folks...I hate it when a rider goes down. Lee sounds like he was a great guy. My condolences to all of his friends and family.
