Monty, a little rain isn't going to be a huge deal to us or the condition of the flag. Once the parade is over, the flag will take up permanent residence on the 2-story side of our house that has no windows. We have lighting there, so "flying the flag at night" is not a concern. Considering that it requires the use of a 25-foot extension ladder to hang the flag and to take it down, it's really not feasible to take the flag down every time it rains. As long as its not a terribly strong storm with high winds that causes damage to the float or to the safety of participants due to lightning, etc. I see no reason to duck out of the parade just because of a little rain.

... get it? "duck"? HA!

I just got back from the Parade, and I have to say Wow! It was truely Aw inspiring. The parade watchers were great, standing up saluting. The float looked great and so did the bikes. Next time we'll bring more candy.

That really was something special today, gang!  Sorry I couldn't hang around to have chow with the rest of the group.  Promised to bring some food dishes to the in-laws party this evening, and I still had to get home and get cookin!

I have to say that one of the best parts of the parade for me was when I noticed a young boy standing in the front lines of the crowd who looked to be only about 8 or 9 years old at the most.  As soon as he saw our huge flag coming down the road, he immediately snapped to attention, saluted the flag, and didn't move until it had passed.  Guessing he must be in the Boy Scouts, but I sure was impressed when a child of that age acted more appropriately than many of the adults -- all without prompting from anyone!

Sure was great getting to meet everyone today.  I doubt that our next mission will be as happy as this one, but still looking forward to seeing y'all around!

Denise

My wife and I took part in todays parade. This was our first experience with the PGR and we were really impressed, not just the float (which was the best ) but also the members and the leadership. Todays 4th of July really had some special meaning for us. Today we were really proud to be Americans and members of the Patriot Guard Riders.
We also noticed the little boy saluting, my eyes welled up, others also stood as we passed, some with their hands over their hearts, some saluting, again a sense of pride just overwhelmed my wife and myself.
i hope we can do whatever we can in future events.
We are sorry we couldn't stay longer, something else came up unexpectedly. We wanted to stay around and get to know all of you better. I promise that everyone will get to know us and I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you.
Again, Thank You for a very special 4th of July.

Monty, Marty and all others that helped put this float together and got us in the parade, THANKS. All I had to do was show up, ride and enjoy all you had done for us and PGR. The trip down last night was good, didn't hit any weather going home until just before getting back and it was very light and short lived ( except my son-in law had about 5 miles futher to go and got drenched ).  Even though I was in front of the float and my bike isn't exactly "quite", I could still hear the crowds clapping and calling out as the float passed them behind me. That sent chills down my spine, put tears in my eyes and swelled my heart with pride. The pride was not for the great looking float or what PGR does, but because they also care, and this caring is spreading more and more across this land. It's bringing back love of this country and love and concern for those who sacrifice and serve. Today was great,... fun, laughter, praying that my aircooled would survive, watching the crowds, getting sprayed with water guns by some kids during the parade, revving engines and just letting loose. Thanks to all who paticipated with us, it was great meeting you and we'll see you again at another mission or event. God Bless our soldiers, VETS and country. Les White ( 99 ironhorse )

Driving the truck I heard so many people thanking us.....thats all well and good, lets us know we are doing the right thing....but the thanks is to those who keep us free. I hope the banners on the truck showed some of those where to go to the web to find us. The parade was a moving experience, those are the missions I look forward to. Thanks again Monty for picking up the ball after my wreck. You all did an awesome job working on the float. The flag made all the difference too,, just a splendid day. Good to see and meet everyone, hope all the aircooled's made it home ok. When is the next parade/welcome home mission??? Should we look at having a "float" that can travel at high speeds for welcome home missions???????

It was a wonderful feeling to see that many Patriots, waving flags, saluting, and standing O's. The cheers at times were overwhelming. I'll send the pictures I took to Monty to put up on here. Great job to everyone involved in making the float. I have to say, It looked the best to me. It was great to see everyone on a fun occassion, we'll see you at the next mission. Have a wonderful Independence day, and THANK YOU to all the Past, Present and Future Military personnel for fighting for our freedoms.

Sounds like the parade was a great success, sorry to have missed it, Monty, I'm back in DC till I don't know when so when ever you have the chance just drop the two rifles and helmets off at my house, you can leave them on the porch or can drop them off at my wifes work, she is the director of the La Petite Day Care on New Ballwin road, its the only one on it. Either is fine, would like to see some pics of the float so let me know when some get posted to the site. Take care

Monty,
Sorry I missed the parade, glad to hear everything went well. Did anyone take any pictures? I would love to see how the float turned out.

Hey Marty, I'm still a couple of days away from having my computer back up enough to process them, but I did take some before and after photos of the float, and will post them to the site as soon as I can. I was too busy during the parade to get any photos during, but I'm hoping that someone else was able to take care of that.

As to being busy during the parade, I learned how to delicately balance 1,000 lbs of myself and Goldwing, slide both feet along the pavement at 2-3 MPH, steer and feather the clutch without burning it up with my left hand, while waving to everyone with my right hand. I put more milage on my boots than I did on my bike, but what a ride. The rolling standing ovation from those who knew of us and what we do sent chills up and down my arms the whole way. It's really nice to be appreciated.

Wow, I just looked at the pictures of the float in the photo gallery section. It looked great. You all did a wonderful job.
You should all be proud. What a great way to let everyone know what we are all about. I hope to be in town next year to help out. Again, Great job.
