I will be riding out from Detroit Lakes Saturday morning. I plan on gassing up at the 45th street exit in Fargo about 5:15. I'll be a little late for the 8:00 am staging start, but anybody who wants to is welcome to join me.

Well stated, Lindy: In dealing with uninvited, possibly hostile attendees, “A complete lack of recognition, in any way, is the absolute best method to deal (not deal) with this situation, should it present itself. “ This worked well in Fargo! The best reaction is no reaction!
Heartl, my children will be with me on Saturday, also. I would suggest lots of water/snacks/sunscreen, especially with very young children. I also do not hide reality from my children. We are a very patriotic family with a lot of military pride, and this will only serve to strengthen their values. We’ll be on four wheels instead of two, but we’ll be there with flags raised high to pay proper respect! I don’t know yet whether or not I’ll be able to make it on Thursday; if not, I will be there in mind and heart!!!
I have the same question as Hartl…Since we’ll be on four wheels, do we go to the staging area where the bikes are meeting? |

| On 2 wheels or 4, show up at the staging area first. We have sign-up sheets and ride liability waivers. Waivers aren't necessary if you're not riding, but the sign-up sheets should be filled out by everyone. The families want copies so they can see how many people came to show support and how far they traveled. Once you've signed up, it would be a good idea then to head over and start lining the sidewalks around the church. The walk will be a short one, and the car(s) can be left in the staging area to avoid traffic congestion when the funeral attendees begin to arrive. |

Hello, I am the mom of Brian Peterson who was stationed with your son in Afghanistan. I will be part of the Patriot Guards in Bismarck on Saturday along with my other son, his wife and some friends. Thank you everyone for honoring this young man. As a mother who still has a son fighting for what we believe in, I am honored to be a part of this group.

Standing by in Bismarck.
My brother is also in Afgan with the 188th, He stood outside of the tent talking with Curtis the day that this tradgedy happened. I also know Tim Wicks that was injured and returned back to the states. My heart goes out to all the families and I will help any way I can. I will do my best to be at the northbrook parking lot Saturday. |

We won't need to turn in liability forms but we may want to sign up so
they get us counted. My bro (lindy) said that having kids around
while the bikes are going in and out of the staging area could be a
problem so I am thinking my hubby will go to the staging area and sign
us up and the kids and I may try to stay out of the way as much as
possible. I believe most of the "staging" is to get the *riders*
organized and the actual riding part planned etc. So those of us
on 4 wheels won't need to be there for that part.
MamaGoose, how many kids do you have? If you can trailer your
bike and you don't have TOO many kids (LOL) I could keep them with me
so you could ride with the PGR too. I don't have the choice to
ride as I don't own a bike. Anyway, just a thought depending on
how many and ages.
Thanks for the suggestion of water, snacks, suncreen. Good plan!
My heart and prayers go out to these families and loved ones who are
hurting right now.... I hope that somehow we can help to take a bit of
the burdon off of their shoulders, and let them know how much we all
truly believe that these young men are heroes.

My boys are 10 & 13. Unfortunately, I don't have a bike (will be getting my license this summer) or I would probably take you up on the offer. Although, maybe my kids could help w/ keeping yours entertained. :) I only ride as a passenger for now, which is why I'm not sure about making it on Thursday...can't afford 2 trips in an SUV and nobody to ride with for this one. |

Karen (Roadking) and myself (Heritage) will depart Grand Forks mid-day Friday to arrive Bismarck early evening. We've got a room at the Doublewood Inn which is convienently right off I-94 and the Hwy 83 exit. Perhaps we'll see a few fellow Riders there; if not, Saturday a.m. Ride safe all and let's make'em proud.

Staging begins at 8, or even earlier. Local media is all over this, and many people wish to do something. My bet is that there will be a serious lack of sidewalk space due to patriotic locals with a lot of Red White & Blue. Let's make this a highly successufl mission. I told Travis' mother last night that she'll see us there.

| God bless Travis, his family, the 188th, and all the troops in harms way. As fellow-deployed North Dakota Army National Guard soldiers, the 164th Engineer Batallion will have Travis and his family in our thoughts and prayers. As someone so brilliantly put it, just make sure Travis's family cannot see the (not to be recognized by name in my text) group. Thats all that needs to be accomplished to complete our mission, and completely defeat theirs.

Just a couple of things...
First, thank you NormDJ for stepping up to the plate on this! Second, and more importantly, Gary12of72, well stated! I have high respect for those who have, are, and will deploy. We will take care of the families here; those who are deployed need to know they can focus on their mission!
Our prayers, thoughts, respect, and love are with all of you who are over there fighting to protect and represent what this great nation stands for. We will be here for the families and friends of our fallen heroes, and we will represent the fighting soldiers in an honorable manner!

ITINERARY UPDATE:
The funeral service for Sgt. Travis Van Zoest will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 10:00 AM at the Church of Corpus Christi, 1911 N. 2nd Street in Bismarck. We have been granted permission to stage in the parking lot of Northbrook Shopping Center just a couple blocks away from the church. Staging will begin at 8:00 AM. (Times are Central)
Directions:
From the east - I-94: Exit at US 83, turn left (south.) 83 becomes State Street. Continue south in the right lane to Divide Ave, where you will turn right (west.) The 2nd stop light is Washington Street, where you will turn right (north.) Northbrook Shopping Center is about 1/2 mile ahead on the right. We will be staging in the west end of the parking lot.
From the west - I-94: Exit at Divide Ave. The exit loops back, and you will turn left at the light onto Divide. Follow Divide Ave to Washington Street. Turn left (north.) Northbrook Shopping Center is about 1/2 mile ahead on the right. We will be staging in the west end of the parking lot.
From the north: US 83: Follow directions above for arrival from the east.

We are planning on riding from the North Branch, MN area on Friday and staying in Fargo that night, getting up early (3:30am) and leaving Fargo by 4 am. If there is anyone else going that direction at about the same time either from MN or from Fargo, get ahold of us, maybe we could hook up and ride together.
I have only been on one other mission, but a point that could be made is that if any of the people coming in cages could bring a cooler with water in it for the riders, some of us do not have the room to carry a cooler or extra water. With the temps predicted to be in the high 80's water will be needed to keep everyone hydrated. Just an idea.

| I know of a soldier home on leave from A Battery-188th ADA in need of a ride from Grand Forks to Bismarck and back for the services this Saturday. He is a member of the same company and knew the fallen soldiers well but cannot get there on his own. Please help! If you have room for him call my cell, 218-791-9939, and I will pass on to him your offer. I myself, have a son in A Battery and will be attending the services for Curtis Mehrer on Thursday in my sons name. Unfortunatly I cannot make it Saturday. Thanks for your help. |

I joined the Patriot Guard Riders in memory of Travis a former co-worker at Coventry Healthcare. I will be standing with other Riders in respect for and protection of the family. I pray for the protestors that they see the error of their ways.
I alsos joined in honor of my son, Ryan D Biesheuvel who will be deployed to Afghanistan on July 8, 2006 with another soldier from his Army Reserve unit in Bismarck. Pray for them and all of our troops, The president and our nation. |

We will be attending on Saturday - I work with an individual from the Amvets - they have given me 100 flags so if people don't have them, some will be available at the staging for
whoever wants one - will get some up by the signup area.

In the deepest part of every true patriots heart, is a pure positive energy that so truly desires to let the family know that their loss is also our loss. I know this is not always something that can be explained by a few simple written words.

For all who will be attending this mission on Saturday morning: Showing up early would be a good thing. We'd like to be well organized and ready to roll well before 9AM to the church from the staging area. Ideally, we should be there, dismounted, and bearing flags before 9:00.
Anyone who is not riding and wishes to show up may go directly to the church as early as they wish. If you do this, PLEASE REMEMBER: park a significant distance away and walk in. Leave plenty of room for family and friends, as there will be a huge turnout for this funeral. Lining the sidewalks with flag-bearers should be done beginning on the south side of the church first. Once the funeral service commences, it has been recommended by the funeral director that we form honor lines with flags to the north and east of the church sanctuary, where there is a high degree of visibility from inside due to numerous windows. More details on this will be provided at the pre-ride meeting at the staging area.
Please keep in mind that this day is all about Travis Van Zoest and the many loved ones he left behind. Be Diligent about not taking up valuable nearby parking, not blocking driveways, and not disrupting vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
