Cowgirl, my sister and I plan to have ice and bottled water for the riders at Atterbury - before they go on to have their beverage of choice, of course.

If your interested I'll ride up with you. I could meet you at the truck stop @ exit 45. (SR 28, & I 69.) Just post a reply, and name the time I'm still going "sidestand up and clutch out" at 0900 from I-465 and I-69. So I should make exit 45 @ 1000 at the latest.
If you've looked at the "Pics of my ride" thread you'll see my bike there - blue Ninja and I wear a red white and blue helmet.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone today, but mostly I cannot stop thinking about the message we as a group will be sending to these young troops who'll be traveling on these eight buses. I had originally planned to fall out once we reached I-465 then head back North, but I will have my gas tank full and may just plan to ride until I run out of gas. I am so proud of everyone comitting themselves to this escort. PLEASE be careful as you're merging into traffic and making your way to fall in line.
Just a thought, but if anyone knows... Do we know which Edinburgh exit these buses will be taking to Camp Atterbury? Exit 80 (Hwy 252 ... 80 Mile Marker) will be the first exit we reach which goes through part of Edinburgh and then shoots straight across US 31 into Camp Atterbury. Exit 76 (Taylorsville/Edinburgh - by the Outlet Mall... 76 Mile Marker) takes US 31 South for about 4 miles, then turns left into Camp Atterbury. |

Hi Chief,
I don't know the scheduled route but I would bet the exit # will be 76A. Exit 80, Hwy 252 takes them into the town of Edinburgh. The 76 exit is Hwy 31. A better Hwy and misses the small town streets. There is a gas station at the first light off of the interstate should anyone need gas. You are about 3 miles from the Camp Atterbury enterence at that point. If you want to catchup, continue the way you were going to (I think) the second light and turn left. (Should be a sign. Hwy 252 goes right) The enterence is about a mile from the light on the left side of the road. Don't go running through the Military gate. They will give you a closeup view of their firearms.
I plan to meet you at exit 78.
If someone is riding in a cage, maybe a pickup, and has a gas can. You might make a friend for life.

Skye/Pinky, that would be great if you are at the entrance to Atterbury. I estimate that we should be there around 4:15-4:30pm. I also think that I will be at the 96th/i-69 entrance around 3:30 instead of 4:00 just to be sure I am there in time. Sounds like a good crew all the way down and I look forward to riding with everyone. Ride safe and see ya tomorrow!! I will meet you there at 3:30 also.

Hey Everyone, Woodmaster just called me (12:25PM). They were leaving Jackson as we spoke. Looks like the escort will be 15-20 minutes later than everyone predicted would be arriving at each location depending on their speed. Remember, get to your designated point safely and let's send these troops off in honor and style. See you all soon.

I'm back home. I'm tired, sore, about 400 miles rode today but it was worth every mile for the 1461st.
Chief - Great ride you have dcsporty, DNR, dirtbike, datacop, doghair and many more I've forgotten already - great to meet all of you.
Michigan had one HUGE turnout a good mile of bikes, guesstimating 150-200. I think doghair got some pictures of their escort. |

hey sirhailstone! that is one long day of riding. Thank you! It was totally awesome to be a part of this. Lots of us Michiganders pulled over to the shoulder at exit 157 and were reassured that our IN brothers & sisters would take it over from there. We're home too, safe & sound and praying that everyone else does the same.
I've never seen a line of bikes that long........it was huge!
May God Bless those soldiers and keep them safe............. |

I just got home from the escort. RIGHT ON !! to the guys from MI that went the distance and went all the way to Camp Atterbury.A note to those who couldnt make it all the way to Camp Atterbury ....every single soldier on every bus was smiling and waving as they rolled into the base.It was clear as the bus drivers left base after dropping off the soldiers even they were touched.Everyone who played a role in the organization of this mission Great job!
The Indiana crew to pass up a ride like the miracle ride to do this...you are just awesome!
twaskom nice touch doing road guard duty to allow the buses into atterbury together.Always impressed with your road courtesy!

Well a couple of things I will speak on here.
Number1: Chief and the new gent glad to meet up with you. More on the ride in number 3.
Number2: Man when I seen that one bus pull out and I thought he wanted the pace picked up. So hence my pulling out to pick up the pace. Little did I know the other riders and buses were taking a break at the exit I just went by. So forgive me if you will but me and the two new gents I met today pulled over and waited. Finally we went to meet two more riders at exit 22. So there we pick up the convoy again after they had taken probably a most deserved break.
Number3: A little.... ok more than a little disappointed for the group organization today. It's just that I felt it was our patrioctic duty to escort the buses. To me that means stay with the buses. Everyone got so split up and the buses so far behind I was disappointed and somewhat at a loss of what to do. I kept trying to slow down and stay with the buses in hopes the lead pack would slow as well. My two cents on that issue.
Number 4: I saw Onion go Vrrrrrrroom Vrrrrrrroom by me....lol! Thanks for saying hi! and glad you got to see me...
Number 5: Woodmaster I commend you and the Michigan PGR. From what I was told approximately 200 bikes escorting the troops! Great job! I will assume that was you with the Michigan plate leading the way as I saw you checking your tank running on empty.
Ok that's it for today. Real pleased with the weather as well. I hope everyone made it home safe. |

| Against the wind to some extent I agree with # 3 the pack should have stayed near the buses. As far as missions go this was a tough one as groups were joining in different areas. Most of the mission was rolling at speed in traffic cutting off communication. As I joined the pack at 96th street I didnt even see the buses.Once I spotted the buses I slowed down and stuck near the buses all the way to atterbury.I think the biggest problem here was lack of police escort. No need to be disappointed read my above post our presence was known and it was appreciated as the soldiers smiled and waved with enthusiasm upon their arrival at Atterbury. Could our performance as a group been better probably.Did we get the point across that we care and appreciate our troops.I am certain we did. |

Against the wind, I am one of the new gents you rode with today. As I told you This was my first ride. It certainly will not be the last. I too was disappointed to lose the buses but the reactions we got along the way and the results of the arrival at camp makes it worthwhile. I was able to get all the way to Southport so I went further than I thought I would get to go.
The fellowship was powerfull and the cause is undeniable. I am glad to have had the opportunity to participate and I hope everone arrived home safely. Thanks for the GREAT time and to the other guys we met today.

| Im home, just got here ,542Mi for me, yeah im braggin! Great ride!! no complaints. didnt expect that it would be real smooth with riders of all limits of experience and the fact that we were trying to catch and match a convoy of 6 moving at 70 in Saturday traffic. But the real point is, man those soldiers were greatful and they realized that we really do think about them and their sacrifice. Im gonna sleep well with that.Im glad we stopped , so that we got a chance to talk to them. They were all just so gracious ! But it did kill me that about half of them looked like they should be working at Mickey D"s instead of driving a fuel truck in Bagdad! Many thanks to all who rode, once again it was MY pleasure! Special shout to Larry and kroozer and Nugget. Respect , dirtbike |

I'm home safe. Nice meeting you Cowgirl, Slink, oneguy and Sgt. Rock! As Slink has stated, by the results, the escort was a proven successs! Disspite the problems along the way, we adapted. Who knew that some of the buses were going to stop? In the long run, it all worked out. And I was damn proud to be a part of it! Waving to those troops on the buses as they entered the base, and them waving back, made it all worth it. May they all come home safe.
P.S. As for #3, Against The Wind, the person in the rear sets the pace. So you did right to try and slow up. |

Thank you everybody for making todays escort. Just got home, 657miles and I didnt run out of gas, a little cold and real sore but proud to have took these troops all the way. This mission became more personal to me when we stopped in Anderson and I found out I had close ties to 3 of the members of this unit. Sorry I got separated from my Michigan PGR friends but redpony and I took this unit to Camp Atterbury, and I told every one of them I met, I would be back in 18 months to escort them home. Had all I can take for one day, but I wanted you guys to know how proud I am to be in such great company. YOUR FRIEND in the PGR, MIKE ,,,,, |

| Just got in about 30 minutes ago. 674 miles. What a ride. It was great until it got cold and KOOZER took his exit. Stopped at Denny's, got a bite to eat and then went on my way. What a satisfying ride. It's great to meet you all. Can't wait to do this again in 18 months and bring those "Hero's" home to their families. Neck and legs are sore, but it is always a small price to pay for what are sailors and soldiers do for us. |

Kroozer,
I think you and the Michigan Swabby get the iron ass award today! Man what a ride! When we were going North bound on 69 and saw ya'll goin south bound, hell we had no choice but to take the ditch and chase ya;ll down. I discovered ya can't smoke on a harley at 105. 90 ain't bad though!
Ya know I only ever passed a smoke, enroute, to Chief before. You did good! LOL
The stop in Anderson was so cool! To get a chance to talk to the guys and gals was fantastic. Hell, they were thanking us while we're thanking them. Wow! Talk about mutual respect. One thing I know for a fact, if anyone of us old vets could trade places with with one of the young ones, and let them go home, we'd do it in a heart beat! Don't deny it, I saw it in each of your eyes and you saw how young they look and got up close and personal. Guess what, we looked that young too, not for long though. Neither will they!
I told a bunch of the guys that we, INdy PGR will be there when they come back, and that we will run them all the way home. I also told em that we'd buy em' a beer. One guy asked, your gonna buy 292 beers? I said hell no, it's one beer with 292 straws! Fact is, I'll cover the first 292 beers, but I'll cry for ever one that's not drunk! God willing they will all come home!
Ya'll did good today and I'm proud to ride with ya'll!
