Calling All IN PGRs - Escort Misson on Saturday, June 3rd

There are 8 buses leaving Jackson, MI on June 3rd at 12:00 Noon.  These buses will be carrying 299 of the 1461st Guard Unit bound for Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, IN.  This is one of the largest deployments to Camp Atterbury, and it would be nice to show them our support is with them before they leave.

Woodmaster is heading up the Michigan escort to the State Line.  They estimate that they will be at the state line around 1:45-2:00PM.  Please post all threads to this mission so we can coordinate handoffs.

I know Chief and Against the Wind are meeting somewhere near Marion and the Indianapolis crew is meeting near I-69 and 465 to finish the escort to Edinburgh.

I'll go as far north as needed to pick them up ...

dontwannbe the only one there though ...

As I said in the other thread, this is the same day as the Riley Children's Miracle Ride [another very worthwhile cause] so turnout may be supressed.

Just talked to the Sgt and as of now there is no plans for the ISP to pick up this escort and no plans on stopping yet. That means I can go till I run out of gas probably around Ft wayne. I dont know if I will be able to catch back up or not. I am going to work on them saturday to see if I can get them to stop for us to get gas, If  someone wants me to call them and give them an update as to where we are at give me your number and I will try to reach you. It sounds pretty firm on the 1:45  / 2:00 at the state line.

I am going to be at best buy in jackson at 8:30 am and we need to leave there at 8:50 to get to the staging area before the troops. They will be marching to the grand stands for a little ceremony at 9:30 and they want us in place before that so not to disturb them. After the ceremony they are going to load up on the busses and they are going to parade thru town then out west ave onto I94 to I69 south. This is only about the third time they have changed times and or staging areas,I am to call again tomorrow evening after 5:00 to see if there is any changes. If so I will post then Thanks everyone for the help, I really dont want to leave them without someone carrying them on.
I cant remember who I talked to last week that said they had some freinds and a cage and flags, if they would be at the camp when the troops arrive that would be special.

Larry, I think you have my cell number, but just in case I'll send it to ya again. If you have the opportunity to call me on Saturday, I'd appreciate it. Cowgirl and I have each other's number, so we'll be able to keep in touch and provide updates to each other as well. I know that since we'll all be on bikes, and if we have the chance to call, we may only reach each other's voice mails, so count on me being at the I-69 /SR 5 Southbound interchange (Exit 78 I believe) around 2:45PM on Saturday. This exit should be an hour and a half from the state line, or about 20 minutes from the far southern edge of Ft. Wayne. I will be leaving at 3AM this morning headed to the Galesburg/Knoxville, IL. mission. If you need me for anything tomorrow I will be available on the cell. Thanks for notifying us with this information.

I am hoping to be able to join in the escort mission. I am in West Lafayette, IN. and am wanting to know if the convoy will be coming into Indiana on I-69 or I-65. Am also curious if there are any other Lafayette area riders planning to go.

Chief, and to all Indiana PGR - I will head out of Richmond as soon as I can, like I said it should be no later than 1PM. With that said I will head out on SR 35 to the SR 3 Bypass in Muncie and up SR 3. If I am feeling lucky I will push for Markle only if I leave Richmond earlier. I will see Chief at the exit on SR 5 (exit 78). I'll just hang a left on SR 218. Now that I think it about that is the choice..I'll meet Chief as I will stop in Hartford City and top off the tank. If by chance no one sees me and I will wear the Red White and Blue so you know me, it is because I was delayed in Richmond. However I do not anticipate that as I get to Richmond for service at 10AM. It's the first service hence I guess they are going to go over it tooth and comb. They told me 2 and 1/2 hours. We'll see you on the road Saturday!

Planning on being there, but would like to meet up a little further north than 465/69. Semperfi mentioned around the 45 mile marker, hopefully will be at least there for a ride to Atterbury.   Otherwise, Marshpearl and I will be with the group at 465/69.

me and the mrs. will be at the state line (exit 157 I think) waiting on the southbound on ramp (or close to that so as not to be playing in traffic). Will escort through Ft Wayne at least

If it looks like we will be short on riders for the transfer at the state line I'll make the ride up to meet them.
Looks like its a little over 200 miles from the State line to Atterbury. The bike can make it on fuel from there.
I don't know the area. Is it best to meet at mile marker 157 (I see no interchage there), or I80, and I69?

According to Google Earth there's an intersection just north of the Toll Road (I-80/I-90) called Baker Road. It looks like from the satellite photos there's a truck stop on the NE section of the junction. Though it could be a trucking depot too it's hard to tell for sure from overhead.

The Toll Road junction is just that - the junction. Not a lot around there and you have to pay to get on or off. Just south of the Toll Road it looks like there's US 27 and some businesses in that area.

Morning Indiana,
The first exit in Michigan is copeland rd it is 2 or 3 miles north of the border and very easy on and off, not much traffic or services. The first couple of exits in your state are busy and congested, but there is gas and food in that area. Hope to see you guys on the road tommorow. I will be on the fata## roadking with Larry and Dave and hopefully hundreds of PGR members on scoots.

I have to work in Seymour, IN until 1:00pm. I would like to ride north to meet the convoy, though. I am planning on maybe riding up to Muncie, is anyone else meeting there? If not, I guess I will just park alongside highway and wait for escort and convoy to go by.

02 Jun 2006 10:30 AM Alert

Thanks for all the responses.  Look forward to riding with everyone.  Here is a recap of the details that I know so far.

12:00 PM - Woodmaster will lead the escort from Michigan to the IN state line
1:45 PM - SirHailstone/Doghair will be at the state line to take over
2:45 PM - Chief/Against the Wind will be at the SR5/I-69 southbound exit
3:15 PM - Ultra/albruner will be at the SR9/1-69 southbound exit (MM45)
4:00 PM   Cowgirl/Sgntmoon will be at 96th/I-69 exit (probably on Corporation Drive just off 96th street to meet and wait call from Little D)

These are some of the places that riders are meeting and hooking up with the escort.  The buses are not stopping anywhere nor will they have ISP escort so it will be up to us to catch up with the buses, so recommend that we get on the southbound exits and be ready to roll.  Ultra/Little D will call my cell and let us know where they are on the route so we can move from the staging area on Corporation Drive to the southbound exit.  Please reach me on 317-919-4267 if you have any updates.  Please join in anywhere along the I-69 route and also wil be going down I-465 to I-65 so anyplace you can join in, just catch up to the escort.  See ya all on Saturday!!

OK, just scouted it out. Last exit in MI is exit 3 copeland/kirkwood theres a full service BP station .7 mi west... Great site line from bridge. low traffic.. it is Mich which has MANDATORY HELMET LAW.,,, next exit south is INdiana 157 just b4 toll rd 180/90. Very congested lots of 18 wheelers full service. best approach here would be to wait on southbound ramp. next exit 154 angola, bad on/off dont suggest next exit 150 ez on off still southbound ramp is best approah for a merge. havent pulled the trigger on where i"ll meet yet. waiting for more info from fellow PGR. But one of those 3 for sure. leaning tward 150 cuz Im gonna be stretching my fuel to make it to Atterbury. respect, dirtbike

Just to clarify Cowgirls post.  Little D, Vennem, Radical_Pursuit, and I will be at exit 45 on I69 by 3:00 (where we will meet Al, fill up, and move to the southbound I69 on-ramp).  We are leaving from Gas America, US40 and Mt Comfort Rd at 2:00 and running up SR9.  I will have my CB on and monitor channel 14 if anyone wants to contact me.  Safe riding to all, see you tomorrow!  Lets bring these heroes home in style!

Actually they are being deployed. So we're sending them off.

Let's (pray, chant, hum, make sacrifices to your deity) that we won't need individual missions to bring them home.

Dirtbike - If the Michiganders can come down to M/M 150 or even go on to Fort Wayne because it looks like we're going to be short until the convoy gets past Fort Wayne.

Once I fuel up from the North I can make it to Edinburgh (Atterbury).
