I believe that having the flag pass through Indy is the right thing to do and backtracking from the Evansville area in order to do this would be considerably out of the way.
Great job everyone involved in getting this put together and organized. Onion, you should be proud !!!
As of now, I'm not sure if I will be able to attend as it will be passing right by my front door on a workday. It's been hard lately for me to take off more work.
I will keep my eyes on this thread and see how things play out the closer it gets to go time.

Ok, if we can divert the run so that it passes right by/through Fort Campbell, I think I have a route idea that will make it work within the time frame. I have sent the tenative route plan to the KY State Captain and all the KY Ride Captains so that we can work as a team and make sure this works out so that we can try and have good participation and accomplish the mission with time to spare. Once all the state routes are finalized, are we going to get them all posted up here for all to see? |

Snap, is the flag to be carried or flown along the ride? This has a great impact on routes to take if it is to be flown.
Also, will Kurt be issuing a media release about this so that the media can get an accurate description of what is happening? |

Posted By rmw on 06/13/2006 10:00 AM Hi: Ah, since this flag is from the 101st. would it not be appropriate since the flag is in Nashville to re-route it to Ft. Campbell, Ky home of the 101 and maybe tie it in somehow for the family members there and then proceed up the Pennyrile to Henderson, KY/Evansville, IN where you can catch I-64 or go North to Indy.
This would only take the flag maybe 90-110 miles off the original route but it seems a bit rude to bypass the base when you are that close.
Just a thought.
More than just a thought...That flag Will be at Ft Campbell. |

Johnny W and all that are folowing this mission. I will answer your question. This flag will not be flown while traveling for obvious reasons. Mrs. Monday would like this thing to get to Dodger stadium in one piece. I think all know what a flag would look like in the wind after 2500 miles. I have ask Mrs Monday to encase this flag so that (at least in Indiana) we would like to strap it to the backrest of our bikes to have it seen as we travel. She is preparing it as such. Each state of course will and can do as they choose, we just want to get it there in one piece.

Attn: State Captains and all potential Ride Captains as well.....in regards to the "handoff"
For planning purposes.....Can all of us pick a "universal" time that we can expect to do our handoff? Example.... Ky to IN at 0900 thurs morning. 0900 Indiana to ILLinois....Can I suggest 0900 at each 2 state handoff point. WIll all say yeah or nay.....?? Thank you.

Onion that won't work for KY because of the time zone changes it would be starting too late in the morning. If possible I would like to see TN do a hand-off to JohnnyW the night before while there is still enough daylight for photos and have the flag spend the night at Fort Campbell and they could do their ceramony in the morning.

Consider it cleared. The flag will be delivered to exit 5 at 0900. There will be several RC's involved with the various legs, but the KY State Captain is coordinating the KY segment of this Mission. |

We are working on the route now. The flag will be picked up Saturday morning and Deliverd to Georgia Sunday Morning. The route is still open.
I'm going to apologize in advance for not being able to get to every part of the State. We only have the possesion and care of the flags for 24 hours. I'm going to set up different staging areas and do a "Pony Express" type route.
More Details soon, I've asked for some pretty big things that I don't imagine will happen but I'm waiting on the emails and phone calls.

More kudos to Onion and everyone involved in making this happen. What an honor that this will be a symbol of what we stand for, being passed from brother-to-brother (or sister, in my case). I was only a baby when Mr. Monday stood up for what is right without expecting recognition and I wish that more of my generation would appreciate what our flag means.
