Update on the David Rue Mission (Indiana)

5/30/06

First, we are very sorry for the short notice on this mission, sometimes it just happens that way. There are two aspects to this mission, the escort from Louisville to Indy and the service at Floral Park Cemetery.

The Cemetery is as follows;

Floral Park Cemetery

3659 Cossell Road, Indianapolis, 46222

Internment at 1 pm

Staging will be at noon

Please bring flags

The escort:

Exit 5 Interstate 65 South (Veterans Highway)

(North of Louisville)

Staging at 0845 EDST

Onion will be on the “ON” Ramp for I65 North

The escort will pick up the hearse at exit 5 north of Louisville and will escort it all the way to Floral Park. The distance should be approximately 115 miles so even small tankers should be able to complete the run. We are uncertain if the KY PGR will continue all the way to Indy or turn back South. We are honored to join our Kentucky brethren on this mission.

This mission is a very fluid one with changes happening rapidly, we will stay on this till the last minute so before you head out in the a.m. please check back in for any updates. We know this is last minute but if it’s at all possible for you to make any part of this mission please do so. Let’s bring this Hoosier son home and show him and his family the love and honor of a grateful state.

God Bless David Rue and his family. God bless PGR and all it’s members.

Thank you sir. You all did an excellent job. Don hasnt mailed me back about the plaque yet so i dont know if im supposed to order one or not. Ride safe and God Bless. Sorry i couldnt make it. I ended up doing 4 memorials the last 3 days. In the sun the whole time and i think it drained me pretty good.

If you all could forward this to the rest that attended to show my appreciation for standing proud.

Mission Complete for: Retired Navy Veteran, David Rue, age 41 of Indianapolis, Indiana and Franklin, Kentucky.
This Tuesday morning, May 30, 2006 at 5:30 AM, PGR members assembled at the Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home at 325 Cedar Street, Franklin, Kentucky to pay respects and to honor Navy Veteran David Rue. We had members who had come from as far away as Thompson Station, Tennessee.

At 6:00 AM the Hearse bearing Mr. Rue departed the drive of the funeral home through a Flag draped "Tunnel of Honor" formed by 14 PGR members, for Indianapolis for final internment. The Hearse was escorted from the funeral home to I-65 by a unit from the Franklin Police Department.

Also in attendance was Mr. Rue’s wife, the Chief of Police and four members of the Franklin Police Department. .

PGR member Mark Watrous volunteered to be the outrider to escort Mr. Rue to Lexington where the Hearse was to be met by Ride Captain Dan Johnson and the Indiana PGR contingent and escorted on to the cemetery in Indianapolis.

My very deep appreciation to all of those who were able to attend and those of you who were with us in spirit. . Mrs. Rue spoke with Janet Temple and thanked all of us for showing her husband the respect and honor he so deserved for his military service. Mrs.

Rue was comforted by our presences.

Special thank you to Heather Crawford and Dan Johnson for their support in setting up this mission.

Special Thank you to the Franklin Kentucky Police Department for their support.

Ride Captains: Ted Seaman and Janet Eve.
