13 May 2007 10:21 PM Alert
Spring has finally arrived here in the "windy city" of Chicago... of course... so have the 17 year locust!! If riding in Chicago traffic wasn't bad enough... now I have small Cessna sized bugs that number in the bazillions to dodge as well. I'm buying shin guards...

Enough of the chit-chat... let's put the rubber to the road.

MEMBER QUESTIONS

- 501(c)3 update -
We finally recieved notice from our legal counsel that our application was complete and ready for submission. With that, we issued payment for the filing fee and the legal team is now cleared to file the application with the IRS. Once they do (which is supposed to be this week per them), and the IRS acknowledges getting it... we're in a waiting game. Reminder, per IRS regulations, we are clear to operate as a 501(c)3 while our application is pending.

HELP ON THE HOMEFRONT / PROJECTS

Have you ever wondered... "Now that the PGR store is open and it certainly seems like the PGR is building quite a nest-egg - what are they doing with that money?". Fair question.

Let me say this, your support - through purchases in our store, and through donations - is a very powerful thing. Certainly there is an economy of scale in numbers. Let me give you the perfect example... our Fallen Warrior Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund is set up for family members of our fallen soldiers that wish to seek assistance in furthering their education and studies. The BOD had agreed on an initial scholarship pool of $4000.

Do you see where this is going?

On this most recent call... the BOD approved increasing this pool to $16,000.00!!!!!!

Folks, this is all thanks to you. This is your support - in action - and we cannot thank you enough. The scholarships for the upcoming year will be awarded soon. Keep your eyes on the Comm forum as we will have features on each of our scholarship winners.

ORGANIZATIONAL ITEMS

Website
- The SPAM filter is up and running and working like a charm. We apologize if there was any down time with the PGR mail system, as we were putting the appliance online.

- A new company for conference calls is being sought after. We feel that there is ample opportunity for us to get a more competitive rate... and we are actively seeking it.

- Membership lists are available through Randy "Steam" Stevens. This is not our final deliverable in this area... but it is a major step forward. We are continuing to work on improvements in member registration, tracking, and reporting. This is a MAJOR undertaking and is posing many more sanfu's than anyone had imagined.

- Ronny "Bear" Awtry will be taking a brief LOA (leave of absence). While he is "offline" Snap and Ed will be sharing the role of Corporate Treasurer. (Ronny, put yer' feet up and crack open an ice cold Pabst Blue Ribbon... you've earned it my brother. Hurry back... we'll be wait'n on ya'!!)

- National Captains announced: Steve Maley and Donnie Snyder are taking on the new roles of National Captains overseeing all the Regional Captains. Randy "Steam" Stevens will be taking over as Regional Captain of the Capitol Region, and Scott Gerr - while maintaining his position as Regional Captain of the Great Lakes Region - will be stepping up as the 2nd National Communications Officer taking over where Randy left off. (Gentlemen... congrats on your new appointments!!)

FINANCIAL ITEMS

- The PGR store opened for orders on 06 DEC 06. YTD (year to date) sales through April is $211,090.57. YTD COGS (cost of good sold) is $135,953.54. YTD profit is $75,137.03 (minus administration fees charged by PayPal).

CLOSING

I've learned alot since my son Cameron was born on 17 JAN 07...

I learned that a newborn... somehow... has the strength to beat down two grown adults into submission and render them walking zombies.
I learned that watching my son smile is just about the greatest thing I have ever seen.
I learned that you can never take enough pictures to keep Grandma satisfied.
I learned that under NO circumstance... for NO reason... do you EVER bounce a baby shortly after they've eaten.
I learned that babies... no matter how cute and cuddly looking... have the ability to grab, kick, punch, and head-butt at any moment.
And... I learned that I love my son more than I ever thought it was possible to love anything in the world.

This is important because, yet again, this is something that I couldn't imagine in someone else's life. I have a new found respect for these families who wait for their loved ones to come home from their deployment. I cannot imagine... nor comprehend... the strain that they shoulder.

Again... I stand in awe. They have a strength that I do not know... they have a resolve that is beyond reproach... they have a love and commitment that transcends all things.

To the Blue Star families... I thank you and pray daily for your loved ones safe journey home.
And... to the families who have tragically replaced that Blue Star with one of Gold... I am so sorry. You raised a son or daughter... not to be a hero... but to be a good person. You succeeded.

It is now my turn. My turn to raise Cameron... to be a good person. But above all... be thankful for the good people who came before him... and honor their service, and their memory, every day of his life.

Respectfully,
Jeff
