Geetings fellow Patriot Guard Riders!

Let me first take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Lockhart of Wauconda, IL (about 45 minutes NW of Chicago). I have been assigned a new role within the PGR - National Communications Officer. I would like to take a couple of moments to let you all know why this position was created, and what to expect.

As the PGR has grown, we naturally feel the strain of that growth in many ways. First and foremost - communication. As we get larger and our mission expands, it is easy to lose contact with what is going on at the BOD level. In addition, it is dificult to hear about great things that are happening outside of your area of operation. These are the two primary reasons this position - and this forum - was created.

The BOD has recognized that the membership desperately wants to know "the latest news". This is a positive because lack of that desire would indicate complacency. Quite the opposite is true within the ranks of the PGR. The passion we all have for this organization is evident in all that we do, all that we ask, and all that we expect from our leaders. The BOD also recognizes that, due to personal life - work life - and PGR life balancing acts, they are not always able to get the word out in a timely fashion. This is where I come in.

I will be on the concalls that the BOD has on a regular basis. I will be taking the context and contents of those calls and putting them out here (in a newsletter/letter) format in an effort to keep everyone as informed as possible. While doing this, there will also be some recognition of member's efforts, and some best practice sharing. I doubt this will be Pulitzer Prize winning prose... but I'll do my best.

Please keep in mind, this forum is not meant to be a "answer everything" avenue. If you have questions and/or concerns about something you see, please use the chain of command that is in place to make sure that your concerns are not only heard - but addressed. Ride Captains, State Captains, and Regional Captains are in place for this very reason.

The BOD is currently working on the vision of a PGR that exists five years from now. This is exciting! Some questions they grapple with:
- What does a peace time PGR look like?
- What is our primary focus once the KIA's stop?
Not easy questions to answer...

These among others are great questions and vital to an organization's growth and evolution. I hope to be able to bring some of this insight to you on a regular basis. After all, this is YOUR organization.

I will create a new post in this forum with each new update. You will see each post "The Word On The Line..." along with the date it was posted.

I am honored to be able to humbly accept this undertaking. To give back to an organization that has given so much - to so many - is a unique opportunity.

If you would like to get in touch with me, please email me through the PGR system. I will do my best to reply to any and all messages in a timely fashion.

Finally, thank you to the BOD for their trust in me. But above all, THANK YOU - the membership. Without you... we are merely a name. An organization steeped with belief in a mission, with no strength to accomplish it. You are what makes the PGR what it is today - an organization that changes lives - and inspires a nation.

Stay tuned and check back... more updates to come.

Respectfully,
Jeff Lockhart
National Communications Officer

"Life... Liberty... and the pursuit of all who threaten it."
