| My brother, who was an active duty Marine at the time, was headed to Beruit, but the bombing of the barracks changed everything. I enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 10, 1983. I thought there was a chance that my brother and I could serve together. When I was active duty I had the privilege of serving with Beruit and Grenada vets, and their confidence helped build confidence in the rest of us young Marines. The loss of those Marines and Sailors in Beruit will never be forgotten!! NEVER! Thank you Cpl. Virgel Hamilton, and the rest of your brothers, my brothers, who made the ultimate sacrifice for us. |

I learned a lot about life from Cpl Hamilton's death. He taught me what duty, honor and country mean. He taught me that there are still real heroes in this world who are willing to stand up and do the right thing, no matter what that right thing is. He taught me what it means to love someone or something enough to die for it. He loved our nation and our way of life enough to make the ultimate sacrifice to preserve it. He loved me enough to die for my safety and my freedom.
Thank you will never be enough to show my gratitude for everything he has done for me. I'm also thankful to his family for sharing him with me. My life is better because of him.
Semper Fi, Cpl Virgel Dean Hamilton. Your name is as emblazened in my heart as it is inked onto my back. A place in my heart will always belong to you.
And now as I ride for him, he rides with me.
My hero gave all. |
