12 May 2008 6:53 AM Alert

The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to participate in a Memorial for all Anne Arundel County Warriors Killed in Action supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  This memorial service will be on May 17, 2008 at Fort Smallwood Park in Anne Arundel County.

NOTE:  The Park would like an anticipated number so please respond to pgrmdrc@yahoo.com or Maryland@patriotguard.org if you will be participating.

Temporary Ride Captain:  Nancy Lasher

Rally Time:  9:30AM

Rally Location:  In the parking lot of Lauer's Supermarket at Rivera Plaza, 8479 Fort Smallwood Rd, Pasadena, MD 21122 (locals call the area Rivera Beach), there is a Dunkin Donuts, ATM, Supermarket, Royal Farms, McDonalds all right there.

Map: http://tinyurl.com/56kwzn

Ride Brief:  9:45AM

KSU:  10:00AM  The traffic on Saturday at that time is heavy because of all the games being held in the parks along the way.  Designated gravel parking has been identified so the bikes do not have to parked in sand.

On arrival we will form a flag line up the gravel driveway to honor families and dignitaries.  We have also been invited to attend the memorial, so at 11 am we will proceed up the hill to the flag pole to stand in honor of our Fallen Warriors and families.

There will be a no frills BBQ after the mission.

Thanks!

Mission Complete. It was a beautiful Armed Forces Day, blue sky, sun shining and a soft breeze off the Patapsco River. A fitting day to honor nine Anne Arundel Country residents who gave their all in defense of our great country in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Anne Arundel County had planted a grove of nine red dogwood trees each with a plaque naming the honored fallen hero. County dignitaries dedicated a 90 foot flagpole and a plaque bearing the men's names. A 35 foot by 20 foot American flag bearing 45 stars (the number of stars on the American Flag when Fort Smallwood was constructed) was dedicated and raised to half staff for 24 hours honoring our fallen warriors. Echo Taps was played by two buglers truly making the entire service more poignant and memorable. The was the second time some PGR members had been together to honor seven of the nine Fallen Heroes. To say it was a honor is an understatment. There were approximately 32 Patriot Guard Riders and Members of the Warrior Brotherhood in attendance. These nine heroes will never be forgotten and their loss will always be grieved by family, friends and members of the Patriot Guard Riders family.
