MEMORIAL MISSION

The Patriot Guard will be honoring CPL Robert D. Roberts at a Memorial Mission on 17 May 08.

CPL Roberts was KIA prior to the formation of the PGR and out of respect and gratitude; we will be presenting the family with a PGR Plaque honoring him for his service to a grateful nation.  The Blue Star Mothers of Western NC will be presenting them with the Gold Star Banner.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please view and sign the guestbook at www.baldwinfairchildfuneral.com.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, 17 May 2008 we have the honor of presenting a PGR Plaque to CPL Roberts’ parents, Chuck and Joann Norman. His sister Tashauna and brother Chris will also be present. We will be making the presentation at the Norman’s restaurant – The Fletcher House at 4055 Hendersonville Rd., Fletcher, NC.

Staging will begin at 1300 in the Pizza Hut/Carolina Furniture parking lot at 2617 Hendersonville Rd., Arden, NC (Asheville Highway –depending on the direction one is coming from). Directions to this location vary but the most simple – for those traveling by way of Interstate 26, is to exit at Airport Rd. (Highway 280) and go East – away from the airport – approx. 2 miles to Hendersonville Rd. There is a Tijuana Junction Restaurant to the left at the intersection. Turn right and travel about 1 to 2 miles. The Pizza Hut/Carolina Furniture parking lot will be on the right side of the road.

There will be a short ride briefing - KSU no later than 1345.  We will turn right out of the parking area and travel about two miles to the Fletcher House on the right. The restaurant has a gravel parking lot and even though it has been packed down it can still be a bit tricky. Bring a kickstand pad if you have one.

 The PGR will present the plaque and the Blue Star Mothers will present a Gold Star Banner. It would be a nice gesture if all who can would stay after the presentation and enjoy some of the wonderful country style home cooking served by the Fletcher House. Please bring your 3x5 flags for the ride to the restaurant. I have invited Chapter 14 of the Disabled American Veterans and the Swannanoa HOG chapter to join the PGR and the Blue Star Mothers in this mission.

Ken Worthen will serve as Ride Captain and will be the point of contact. 828-243-2099

"... I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of Freedom."

Yours, Very Sincerely and Respectfully,

Many thanks to you for your service and your sacrifice, Cpl Roberts. May you rest forever in the arms of the Angel.
For your family and friends, I pray for peace and comfort. I do know that we never recover from the loss of a loved one, however, God's Grace and the Holy Spirit are our encouragement in all the troubles of life and death. Be encouraged by remembering that your Hero is loved and cherished by all of us in this free nation; it was his sacrifice and that of others like him who ensure our freedom.

To the family and friends of Cpl Robert D. Roberts, may God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. Know your son was and is a Hero to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. He will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Robert.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."
