SGT Estell "Lee" Turner, 43, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died July 2 at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., of wounds suffered on June 28 in Afghanistan, when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. SGT Turner was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

SGT Turner's family has invited the PGR to honor their loved one during his funeral and burial services. SGT Turner was also a Patriot Guard Rider who had ridden to honor Fallen Heroes according to his brother MSG John Turner, also a PGR member who is in the Army stationed at Ft. Bragg.

SGT Turner spent six years with the Army after high school and sought to re-enter at age 42 once the age limit was raised. He had a "go get it" attitude and loved being in the military, his mother, Gloria Turner, of Jackson, KY, said. He followed in the footsteps of his late father, Clarence Turner, who served in the Navy for 18 years, and his late grandfather, also named Estell Turner, an Army solider who served in World War II.

In addition to his mother and brother, SGT Turner is also survived by his wife, Leah Turner, an Army Reservist, of Sioux Falls, their daughter, Lyda, of Broadway, North Carolina, and a sister, Gloria "Gucci" Turner of Jackson, KY.

SGT Turner is scheduled to arrive at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport on Wednesday, July 9. The PGR will be present to stand an Honor Flag Line as his casket is transferred to the hearse.

Staging for the Airport mission:
Arrive at the TACAir terminal no later than 10:30 a.m. EDT for staging at instructions. The TACAir terminal is located at 4029 Airport Road, Lexington, KY.


A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, at Watts Funeral Home, 650 Highway 15 North, Jackson, KY. The PGR will be present to stand an Honor Flag Line at the funeral home.

Staging for Visitation:
Staging is at 5:00 p.m. EDT in order to establish the flag line prior to the beginning of the public visitation. Parking will be in the big parking lot across the street from the funeral home.


The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 11, at Watts Funeral Home, 650 Highway 15 North, Jackson, KY. The PGR will be present to stand an Honor Flag Line at the funeral home before and during the service.

Staging for Funeral Service:
Arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. EDT in order to establish the flag line prior to the beginning of the funeral service. Parking will be in the big parking lot across the street from the funeral home.


A burial service with full military rites will be conducted at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Road, Nicholasville, KY at 3:00 p.m. EDT, Friday, July 11. The PGR will stand an Honor Flag Line at the cemetery entrance upon arrival of the funeral procession and at the Pavilion during the service.

Staging for Burial Service:
Be at the entrance to Camp Nelson no later than 2:30 p.m. EDT in order to be setup prior to the arrival of the hearse and SGT Turner's family. Parking at Camp Nelson is limited and controlled due to multiple funeral services ongoing each day. Park motorcycles alongside the driveway inside the cemetery gate leading up the hill. Keep them as far to the side as possible to allow room for the hearse and other cars to pass by.

This Hero will be coming to KY.

A third-generation soldier from Sioux Falls, S.D., died Wednesday from injuries
suffered last week while on duty in Afghanistan.


He was taken to a hospital in Germany and then to the National Naval Medical
Center in Bethesda, Md., where he passed.

He had a "go get it" attitude and loved being in the military, his mother,
Gloria Turner, of Jackson, Ky., said Thursday.

"He had a great personality," she said. "He was always looking out for the next
guy."

Turner followed in the footsteps of his late father, Clarence Turner, who served
in the Navy for 18 years, and his late grandfather, also named Estell Turner, an
Army solider who served in World War II, Gloria Turner said.

Turner's younger brother, Johnny, is in the Army stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C.,
she said.

"My husband insisted they serve in the military," Turner said. "Our family has
always believed that you put your country first."

Estell L. Turner was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th
Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Ky. He joined the
Army in 2004.

He received numerous awards including the Purple Heart and a National Defense
Service Medal, according to a release from South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds'
office.

A memorial service for Turner will be held in Afghanistan. Spc Turner is scheduled
to be flown to Kentucky for services next week, his mother said.

Turner also is survived by his wife, Leah Turner of Sioux Falls and their
daughter, Lyda, of Broadway, N.C.





DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. 
Spc. Estell L. A Mother asked President Bush, "Why did my Child have to die in Iraq?" Another Mother asked President Kennedy,"Why did my Child have to die in Vietnam?" Another Mother asked President Truman, "Why did my Child have to die in Korea?" Another Mother asked President F.D. Roosevelt,"Why did my Child have to die at Iwo Jima ?" Another Mother asked President W. Wilson, "Why did my Child have to die on the battlefield of France ?" Yet another Mother asked President Lincoln,"Why did my Child have to die at Gettysburg ?" And yet another Mother asked President G.Washington, "Why did my Child have to die near Valley Forge?" Long, long ago a Mother (Mary) asked, "Heavenly Father, why did my Child have to die on a cross outside Jerusalim?" All the answers are so near the same. One died to save our Souls and the others died to protect our Freedoms.
