07 Dec 2007 10:31 AM Alert

It is my sad duty to inform you that Belgian LEO Kitty Van Nieuwenhuysen, 23 years old and only child of one of my NCO's, was killed on December 4th, while responding to a car theft call.

Kitty was a LEO for less than 3 months, when she was killed by a burst of an AK-47. Before passing, she managed to warn other patrols.

Her fellow LEO and a civilian where severely wounded in the same shooting.

Kitty would have turned 24 the next day.

The funeral with all honors will take place on Tuesday, December 11th in the city of Leuven (Louvain), in the "Sint Pieter Church" at 10 am. All who wish to pay their respects are welcome.

There will be large delegations from the Military and the Belgian Federal and Local police Forces.

I will attend.

Please spare a thought for her and her parents.

Thank you

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kitty Van Nieuwenhuysen, LEO, of Belgium. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. Know your daughter was and is a Hero to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. She will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Kitty.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

My deep regret and sympathy to the family of LEO Kitty Van Nieuwenhuysen. The Belgium people have suffered the loss of a genuine hero; and all decent people everywhere are poorer for this terrible event. Kitty had the courage to stand in the way of the evil that threatens the civilized world; and we have a debt of Honor and Respect to her to continue the fight. Please know that Kitty will be in my thoughts and prayers often in the days to come. I also pray for the family and fellow LEOs, that they will find strength and solace as day leads unto day.
