Tribute They killed Danish soldiers are konstabel Mads Lerche Rasmussen, 21 years overkonstabel Andreas Søgaard Brohus, 26 years and konstabel Martin Abildgaard, 23 years, all from Gardehusarregimentet in Slagelse 18-06-2009 kl. 14:55
The Acting Head of the Danish Battle Group, Lieutenant Colonel Jens Ole Rossen-Jørgensen, writes:
Wednesday 17 June was a very sad day for the Danish battalion in Helmand since the course of the morning was incontrovertibly clear to us that we had suffered our first loss to Team 7
Three talented soldiers, friends and colleagues were with a torn from us and their loved ones in the most relentless and brutal fashion after being hit by a vejsidebombe. We sit back down here, thoughtful and deeply concerned at having lost three of our comrades and all our thoughts go in this tragedy home to our fallen comrades' families and friends whose loss is irreplaceable, and whose sorrow we feel and share.
Konstabel Mads Lerche Rasmussen overkonstabel Andreas Søgaard Brohus and konstabel Martin Abildgaard loved life as soldiers. All three knew that the task in Helmand involves a risk, and that they ultimately have to pay the ultimate price. Yet they were resolved and determined to help to solve common tasks in Team 7, and they took all three major tasks as part of the battalion investigations section.
They went to work with curved necks, as professional soldiers and best friends, they were. Also yesterday, as usual, one could count on the three. They took charge and led the column appears on the only tarred road in the Danish responsibility, Highway 1, as they suddenly hit by a powerful, unpredictable and relentless explosion that killed them the most precious of all. We who sit back, trying to find a view that the three young people died on that hot day in the Afghan desert, and to find strength to continue to cope in their spirit. They would even have wished; their unjust death may not be in vain.
We will always remember Mads, Andreas and Martin, thinking about them and miss them. They have paid the highest price in the solution of the task we undertook ourselves. Our thoughts will forever be with them and our deepest sympathy to their families.
Honorable be their memorial.
Head of Staff and Logistics Company, Major Jack Algreen Forest Star, writes: On 17 June 2009 was a sad day for the light detection section and the rest of the staff and logistics company. An explosion from an IED, rev three of our good friends and colleagues from us during a fatal moment. IEDén was paradoxically one of the vejunderløb as Section precisely even had the task of controlling an unlimited number of times. Both Andreas, Mads and Martin were professional soldiers and good individual fighters. They live and breathe in their own way of investigating the role of man with the freedom, autonomy and responsibility as each soldier has. And with the special and close ties as soldiers in small units linked. Andreas, Mads and Martin were all good friends, each with its own special characteristics. One quiet and listening, the other open, and much speaking, and the third is always helpful. They helped each to hold section of a good, professional level. A professional-level section is known and respected in the whole of the Danish battalion. Andreas, Mads and Martin is no more. We are left with the images on the retina, the memories and the pain, the loss has left. With the vacuum which can never be filled. Company thoughts are with the families of Andreas, Mads and Martin. We feel with you. Respect! Honorable be their memorial. The Light Solution section writes: The light detecting section is in great grief over having lost Mads, Andreas and Martin. The three vellidte friends and professional soldiers drove on Wednesday 17 June at a vejsidebombe in Helmand and was killed on the spot.
Konstabel Mads Lerche Rasmussen.
Mads Lerche Rasmussen was outgoing and frank, and could charm through to everyone he spoke with. He was also temperamental, but as fast as he was up in the red box, just as quickly he was back in his usual sociable and charming style. He was incredibly vellidt among his friends and colleagues and highly respected for his skills as a soldier, especially as jet shuttle. Over all the earth Mads loved his car, which he spent much time and money on, so it could be just as he wanted it. Mads was pronounced B-man, big fan of Manchester and forgudede his sister, whose picture he had hanging beside his bed.
Mads resigned as konstabelelev by Gardehusarregimentet and began by Stab company in 1 Armored Infantry Battalion, 1 November 2006. He was appointed konstabel 1 August 2007 and then transferred to 1 Mechanized infantry company in the same battalion. From June to August 2008 was Mads released for the first time when he came in and filled a hole in the Fenris-company on hold 5 in Afghanistan. 1 October 2008 tilgik Mads scout section of the company and staff were deployed in February 2009 with Team 7 to Helmand in Afghanistan in the light detecting section under Staff and Logistics Company.
Mads was 21 years. He leaves his parents and sister. (translated from Danish ~ http://forsvaret.dk/HOK/Nyt%20og%20Presse/ISAF/Pages/Mindeord-2.aspx) |

To the family and friends of the ever so young Konstabel Mads Lerche Rasmussen, There are no words or platitudes that can temper your pain. I can’t think of anything in life that could be more painful, then the loss of a loved one, especially a son. I would, however, like to take a moment to remind you that as deep as the hole in your heart feels at this time, it will be filled over time with the wonderful times spent together. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal” ~From a headstone in Ireland Thank you Mads for your service in helping our nation, and it's people, you are a hero. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.
