SEND-OFF for the 849th MAC Litchfield Unit-Part One- Ride Report

At 2:00 we staged for this mission at the Handi Stop gas station. 14 PGR members were present for this send-off mission. We were given a police escort to the Armory to set up our flag line. As we arrived, there were several soldiers outside and they were very happy to see us. Very few local people knew that we were going to come and give a patriotic send off to these troops. It was awesome to see the happy faces of these men and woman as we walked over and set up our flag line. Hand shakes and hugs were many that evening as we stood on the flag line to honor these soldiers. What a great event!!

Secret mission ride report

At 1:30 AM the staging area opened for this ‘secret mission’. What a surprise when we found that 23 of the finest PGR members came out in the middle of the night to see these same soldiers off. WOW!! One of the PGR members had contacted a friend from the fire department and we were greeted with a fire truck as well!! What an awesome sight!! We left the staging area at 2:00 AM with the fire truck escorting us back to the armory. With lights flashing on the fire truck, the roar of bikes and the honking of horns, we drove past the Armory and parked. The soldiers were hooting and hollering this time, so happy to see us again!! We set up our flag line from the Armory to the waiting bus. We stood in honor until the bus was fully loaded.

Once the soldiers were on the bus at about 3:15 AM we set up our escort mission! The fire truck led the escort, then the bikes, the bus and the cages. Local law enforcement blocked the roadway and then jumped on the tail end without even being notified by any of us. As we drove through downtown Litchfield, we saw more law enforcement officials standing next to their vehicles, and cars and trucks pulled over to watch as we drove by, many people standing outside. What an awesome sight to see!!! We escorted the bus to the edge of town and then waved and honked as they continued on!! Thank you to all the PGR members who showed up and gave these soldiers the send-off that they deserve!!!

Thanks to all of the PGR members who showed up for our send off part 1. As a soldier of the 849th I was happy to hear from my fellow squad members how much they enjoyed your presence.

It isn't allways easy leaving your home town. But knowing we have this kind of support really makes us feel good about what we are doing.

Thank you,

Ride Report: 29 Patriot Guard Riders were on hand to show honor, respect, and thanks to the 849th MAC on a windy Wednesday evening, June 6, 2007. As we surrounded the entrance to the Litchfield Civic Arena, many guards men and women and their families mingled among our flag line, with many handshakes, hugs, and tears being shed by all.

Upon entering the arena to set up our flag lines on both sides of the podium, the Patriot Guard received a spontaneous standing ovation from the capacity crowd from area communities, and another when when at the beginning of the program the National Guard thanked us for being there and for all that we do.Then PGR members Sgt. Willie Puckett and Spec Greg Brown, both Purple Heart recipiants, presented a PGR flag signed by PGR members for the troops to take with to Iraq.

Governor Palenty was there and gave a terrific speech, interrupted often by applause, especially when he said that the Mn troops standing in the arena were some of the finest in the world. He presented a Minnesota flag to the troops, and asked their commander to bring it back in a year with all the troops.

Here is a picture link of the sendoff activities.

In visiting by phone with the RC's in charge, Lori and Andy, who are now on vacation, she said at the surprise early morning send off, they had about 20 PGR's, and two fire trucks, and Meeker Cty deputies escorting the bus as it left town, with many spectators lining the streets of Litchfield.
