Subj: KUP’s Purple Heart Cruise – 31 July 08 –  This is a Thursday, Early A.M. 

Event location: Navy Pier 

 Time: Event starts at 6:30 a.m. – Ends sometime between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m.

 Staging: (Staging will be various locations & times early morning – see details below)

The Patriot Guard has been invited to participate in the 52nd Annual KUP’s Purple Heart Cruise.    (www.kphf.us ) This event is being run by multiple veteran and motorcycle groups.  We are one of those entities.

 Vehicle Escort (Motorcycle Only): 

We will escort wounded and homeless vets from Jesse Brown VA Center and St. Leo’s VA Center.

Address: Jesse Brown VA Center   820 S. Damen Ave, Chicago, IL  60612    (Subject to Change – Monitor this thread for updates.)

Staging:  Estimated staging time between 4:30 – 5:00 a.m.

Ride Brief: Approx 5:00 a.m.

Departure from Jesse Brown:  Estimated 5:30 a.m.

Navy Pier Event (all vehicles): 

The PGR will host a flag-line at the event, to welcome the arriving vets and guests.  Our flag line will move to two additional locations during the event.

Address: Navy Pier

Staging: 5:30 a.m.

Event Briefing: 5:45 a.m.

Flag-line: Approx. 6 a.m.

 Parking passes will be provided for cars / trucks.  Bikes will park out front.) 

 If you plan on attending this event,  send an e-mail to:  pgrpurpleheartcruise08@comcast.net

On your e-mail:

  • Indicate which event you will 1st arrive at…e.g. are you showing up for the escort, or going directly to the Pier?
  • We need a count of vehicles, so be sure to include if you’re arriving in a car or on a bike.
  • If you’re a PGR member attending this event, but riding in with another group’s escort, then please  make sure to mention that  in your e-mail response.

 An update e-mail will be sent to all attendees approximately 7/28, with final details for each location.

For the ones in the North West Burbs, some of us are meeting on the shoulder of RT 53 just South of Higgins Road (Woodfield Mall Area) on the West Side. We will leave at 0430 SHARP. We will then take 53 to 290 from there we will meet at the main entrance to Jesse Brown VA Center, 820 South Damen Ave, Chicago, IL.

Lawman747:: Yes, the expressway itself. It's a very wide Shoulder and grass beyond that. I think we'll be safe as long as we are in a line with our 4-Ways on and not all grouped up.

Also, as soon as I can, after the escort to Navy Pier, I will be heading North to the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home for the escort for EMC Clinton Callahan. They plan on leaving the Funeral home to the Gate at Great Lakes Naval Base at 10:30 AM. Any of you that want to go there with me, let me know.
