Updated 25 July 1600 Cdt by Sandra
CRUCIAL UPDATE!!! Command has just informed me that the 116th MPs will be arriving 2 hours earlier than expected Saturday, July 26th. The staging areas will NOT change however the staging times are being revised to the following: TOPEKA/FORBES FIELD STAGING AREA Begin Staging - 1700 (5:00pm) Safety Brief - 1730 (5:30pm) Please bring plenty of water as the heat index is expected to be near to or over 100. I am trying to cut the time between safety brief and estimated time of departure due to the heat, so be there no later than 1730. The following is the email sent out by Kai Sayson to his riders:
Attention all riders that are Staging at the Paxico Rest stop for this welcome home mission for the 116th MP CO 7-26-08 ( Saturday ):

I have been informed that the 116th MP co will arrive at Forbes Field at 1600 hours 7-26-08. They will take about 2 hours to process and be on their way to Fort Riley.

Staging at Paxico Rest Stop will be at [u hours or 530 pm if you wish to escort the 116th MP co from the Paxico Rest Stop.
We will line our bikes at the rest stops's outer edge close to the exit. I will be receiving a call from Vance Allen when the 116th MP is about ten minutes from the Paxico Rest stop.

As they pass the rest stop we will exit the rest stop and pass them and go ahead to the Marshall Airfield gate. There we will break the bikes in two columns parked on either side of the rode and give them a Welcome Home Salute.
Patriot Guard Riders
_____________________________________________________________________________ Updated 22 July 08 1153 Cdt by Sandra TOPEKA/FORBES FIELD STAGING AREA AND TIME CHANGE!! The 116th MPs will now be arriving at Forbes Field 190th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) at 1815 (6:15pm). They will be conducting briefings and inprocessing for approximately 2 hours so they can expect to depart Forbes Field at approximately 2015 (8:15 p.m.). However, they may take less time than that. Staging: Begin at 1845 (6:45pm). Parking lot of Building #330 at Forbes. Turn into the Main entrance of Forbes off Topeka Blvd (one that Kansas National Guard Museum and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is on) and immediately turn left on B Street before the Museum, and another immediate left into the lot. The parking lot is the first one you will see between B Street and Topeka Blvd. There is one very small building (#330) on the north end of the lot. If you use the Topeka Air Industrial Park (University Blvd) entrance, take your very first right on B Street and follow to the end. Lot will be on your right just past the SCCA. Safety Brief - 1930 (7:30pm) After I receive word from Command, we will move to the entrance of the 190th ARW for the escort. Route will be revealed at the safety brief. Another important change. We will not be stopping at the Paxico/Maple Hill rest area on I-70. Kai will still be staging there and will join us on the fly, pass us and man a line at the entrance gate to Fort Riley. Riders at this point have different options. If you do not want to do the escort to the Fort, simply pull off into the rest area. There is road to go over to other side to get back onto I-70 East. Or, you can remain with the bus escort, or join Kai's group and help man the line and salute as they pull in. More details will be at the briefing. Weather - High 95 Low 71. 30% chance of rain. Thanks and I hope to see you all there!! Be advised...new changes to Welcome Home for 116th MP Co. From Ft Riley Kansas
The chain-of-command has requested that the Welcome Home for 116th be accomplished without any LEO assistance. They have also said that the buses carrying the 116th will not stop at the rest stop near Paxico/Maple Hill area.
The 116th MP Co will be arriving at 1815 hours ( 6:15 PM ) on the 26 July 2008 ( Saturday ) Vance Allen is still greeting them at Forbes Field and I will still be staging at the Paxico/Maple hill rest stop.
Vance Allen RC at Forbes Field will be putting together his own staging times and Changes on meeting and escorting the 116th at Forbes field.
The Staging at the Paxico/ Maple Rest stop are as follows:
Staging at Rest stop at Maple Hill: 26 July ( Saturday ) 1900-1930 hours (7:00-7:30 PM )
Line up at the very outer edge of the Rest stop and wait until the buses pass...exit the rest stop and catch up to the Buses and escort them to the Marshall Airfield Gate and line up on both sides of the road before the gate and give the returning heroes a Standing Salute!!!!

_____________________________________________________________________________ We have been invited to Welcome Home the 116th MP Co. The Invitation came from one of their Officers and Chain of Command and also a PGR member.
The 116th Military Police Company are coming home from a 15 month tour of duty in Iraq. These heroes are due back between 26 July 2008. They will be coming thru Forbes Field in Topeka, KS.
Because of Security, I will not get an exact date of their return. When I do I will send another notice out via e-mail.
Mission parameters are to escort 116th MP Co from Forbes Field in Topeka to the the rest stop near the Maple Hill Exit ( rest stop located in the island after Maple hill on the left ).
From there, we will escort 116th MP Co to Fort Riley Kansas. Roll thru the Gate to their debriefing and Welcome home at Bldg 88312.
Vance Allen will be RC at Forbes Field and will coordinate with the Shawnee Sheriffs Department to escort the 116th and Riders out of Shawnee Co.
From there I will Coordinate with the Kansas Highway Patrol to escort us all the way to Ft Riley, KS. At the gate they will have the MP's escorting us.
If you are riding thru the gate of Fort Riley and all the way to building 88312. Make Sure that you have Helmet, full gloves, long sleeve shirt or jacket, over the ankle boots, License, registration and insurance. Our POC will make arrangements for us to be preregistered so that we may just roll thru with the buses carrying our heroes the 116th MP co.

Hi Rose, join us at either staging area. You don't need to ride, just show up in your car and be part of the escort. On a personal note, thank you and your family for the sacrifices you have made while your husband was deployed. It doesn't get expressed enough that you are heros too. Thank you for what you do.

TOPEKA/FORBES FIELD STAGING INFORMATION:
Staging will begin at 2:30pm in the main terminal parking lot.
Safety Briefing - 3:15pm
As most of us know, these types of missions can be unpredicatable to say the least, so be prepared to respond to any last minute changes.
LEO escort will be provided by the Shawnee County Sheriff's Department.
We will escort them to the Maple Hill/Paxico rest area on I-70, where Kai Sayson will have a group of riders. Kansas Highway Patrol will then escort us in to the entry gate of Fort Riley.
Please be aware that we were unable to be pre-cleared for entry onto the base, so if you wish to go onto the base, you will have to get a pass ahead of time or once you are there. All regulations pertaining to riding a motorcycle on base will apply.
Be sure to bring water, snacks, etc. Extended forecast calls for clear skies and a high of 87. But we live in Kansas so you never know.

Am I to assume that we won't be allowed to follow the bus onto post for the welcome home?? An earlier email said that we had to have over the ankle boots, long sleeves/jackets, helmets and full gloves to get on post. Is there more to get cleared?? |

Ocergrip,
The Officer who invited us to escort the 116th MP's just couldn't arrange a pass for all of our bikes to go on post without preregistration with all that you said plus motorcycle saftey course sticker. If you wish to go on Ft Riley you can register at the gate with all the saftey equipment required to go on base. That Includes a Helmet, Long sleve jacket or shirt, full fingered gloves, over the ankle boots, and a reflective vest. Documents you will need will be a drivers/ Motorcyle license, bike registration, Proof of insurance and MC safety course card. If you have all the above items the guards at the gate will allow you to register to go onto Ft Riley. Kai |
