Updated 01 July 08 harly69g

Hey all, we are moving forward very quickly with the BBQ event! We have received several donations for this, including from the Novato POA! Here are some needs we have, 1) RC to handle staging point and getting the riders there at 1100hrs sharp, 2) 8+ people to arrive at 9:30 to 10:00 am to help with setup, 3) 2 BBQ chefs to handle a whole bunch of hamburgers and hot dogs, 4) clean up crew, to help leave the place as good or better then before we started.
We also need somewhat of a head count as to how many PGR and others will be there, This would include the # of bikes as the VA personnel will cone off and area for the bikes to park in. Lynn Tross is coordinating the food end and I KNOW she could use some help in picking up the food and getting it the the BBQ. We also have a new PGR member that is also an Iraq Vet, former Marine (did I say former...forgive me). He has offered to be the "DJ" and provide music and announcements during the BBQ. Thanks Tyson!! If you want to donate towards this event, you can contact Lynn Tross or, we will have a "can" at the BBQ for such!  Thank You to all who participate either by being there, donating towards or supporting this in spirit!

=================================================================

Patriot Guard Riders are going to have a Hospital Visit/BBQ at the Palo Alto VA Hospital on July 12, 2008. The event starts at 1100hrs and will end by 1400hrs (2:00pm).

We will have a staging area, TBD, KSU-TBD, so that most of all who are involved will arrive at the same time. We will also have an advance party who will help in getting everything set up, BBQ's warmed up, music playing, etc.. Areas of help needed; 2 to 3 BBQ chef's,  2 people to man the drunks, 4 or 5 to handle all the food setup.

We also need HOME MADE COOKIES-a whole bunch-20+dozen, donations etc, to help with food expense. The menu will be, Hamburgers, selected lunch meat, cut up veggies, tater salad, green salad, BBQ beans(?), mustard, mayo, katchsup, relish, chips, and drinks of all kinds. Please let me or Lynn Tross know in what way you can help.

As for music, I do receptions and parties and have the system for providing all the music and public address that we may need. We will also be dividing up into teams of 2 to go into rooms of those who cannot come out to the BBQ, to visit and give out THANK YOU pins. (I am suggesting we all have/get the Thank You pins from the PGR Store to hand out). If there are any questions or ideas, let me know.

Thank you all

Thanks Jasper for that endsorsement. It is really true. So many of us were touched deeply last year when we did this. These guy's and gals who are in the Hospital are very greatful and a lot of times embarrased from the attention, not thinking that they deserve the attention. But, they derserve that and more...much more! I look forward to meeting all who can come to this event!

Hello Folks,

We will STAGE at Starbuck's Coffee, 2000 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA at 0945 (9:45 AM). KSU at 1045 (10:45 AM) for arrival at the VA at 10:55 AM.

There is a Valero located directly across the intersection of El Camino Real and College Ave., and there are other service stations just a few blocks down the street. We only have a little over two miles to ride to the VA, so you need not be too concerned. Bring escort/parade flags and/or decorations.

Please email me if you plan to attend and will arrive at staging for coffee so that I can give the Starbuck's manager a heads-up for numbers.

Howdy...copying from the "other" forum.

Wow, what a great experience I got to participate in yesterday. Got to meet lots of new folks; patients, families, staff and volunteers, and got to see some old friends that I haven't seen in a while. The time flew by and all us little worker bees (Gold Star Moms, Pacifica Military Moms, Blues Star Moms, PGR, Soldiers Angels, MIA/POW and plenty of others) got to spend some quality time bringing patients their lunches and visiting. The VA staffers that helped coordinate the event, Renee and Richard, were incredible and so very helpful. Thanks to Steve and especially Miss Lynn and her cooks, who I believe were James (welcome back!) TGray and Maddog, who kept the masses fed. Please forgive me if I've forgotten someone...we were all a little busy. It was nice to see Melanie Morgan, who is always so inspirational. (thanks for the t-shirts...they're on the way to Afghanistan Monday). We had a great D.J. whose daughter was a super helper and then got to finish the afternoon walking through the rose garden and visiting the chapel with a special group of folks. The day went by too quickly. Looking forward to next year. Gotta say a special thank you to United States Volunteers, Palo Alto Peace Officer's Association, TGray, and all the others who contributed funds to make this happen.

Well Colleen just about covered all the same sentiments that I intended to post, so I will simply add this to her post above:

THANK YOU to every single one of you who were able to join us. Your efforts in making everything come together were extraordinary!

THANK YOU to all of you who were unable to join us, but who supported us and were with us in spirit.

THANK YOU to all who donated funds; baked mountains of delicious cookies; and donated tons of food items and accessories.

THIS WAS TRULY A TEAM EFFORT. EVERYONE CONTRIBUTED IN THEIR OWN SPECIAL WAY, WHICH MADE FOR AN OUTSTANDING DAY. THANK YOU ALL!!!

~Lynn
