******URGENT ITINERARY CHANGE!!*********
Due to circumstances beyond our control, staging time has been changed for this Welcome Home mission.
Staging will now be at 1030, Friday, 25 April, instead of the previously announced 1115.
When you arrive at Yeager Airport, follow the signs to the "Long Term Parking" and park your vehicle/bike in the parking building. You will get a ticket for the parking building, give it to Buddy Palla (Ride Captain). Yeager Airport management has graciously offered to validate PGR members parking tickets, but only if they are presented to the manager by the Ride Captain; the RC will return your ticket to you, once it has been signed. You will not have to pay for parking if you follow these instructions.
We will meet inside the terminal in the Baggage Claim area, please be inside by 11:30 for briefing instructions, and to hand your parking ticket to the RC. We will establish our flag line on both sides of the walkway leading to the Passenger Screening area.
Please remember to bring your 3x5 flags, and it may be good to bring along an extra, if you have one. Let's give these returning troops the welcome they deserve!

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to attend a Welcome Home celebration for Alpha Company, 4th Combat Engineering Battalion (Marines). This fine group has been proudly doing their part in the Global War On Terrorism, and now it is our turn to honor them, as they return home to their families and loved ones. Please join with us in this happy time of reunion.
The date of arrival is 25 April 2008, the place is Yeager Airport, Charleston, WV. We will be staging at 11:15 at the airport, anticipating the arrival of the heroes a short time later. The mission will consist of a flag honor line at the airport; no escort will required, so "iron ponies" will not be needed. The mission will terminate after the service members depart the airport. Please bring your 3x5 US flags; PGR flags would also be appropriate, if you have them. Exact staging location at the airport will not be known until coordination with the airport authorities has been accomplished on Thursday. Please monitor this thread for further updates. ***** MISSION COMPLETE, Alpha Co, 4th CEB Charleston, WV 25 April 2008 *****
Once again, PGR members and guests had to “adapt and overcome”. There were a lot of people at Yeager Airport for the arrival of the Marines, there were many signs and posters put up throughout the airport terminal…then it happened. The 1st Sgt gathered everyone together for an announcement around 10:35, to let us know he had just received word the airplanes were going to arrive at Executive Aviation on the General Aviation (GA) side of the airport, NOT the commercial terminal where we all were waiting. Oh, and by the way, he further stated the “good news” by telling us, “…the airplanes are ahead of schedule and due to land at 10:47.” (His idea of good news and mine were slightly different today).
So now we have a stampede of people trying to take down signs and get to the GA side of the airport in the next 12 minutes! I would’ve like to wait around for any PGR “stragglers”, but the mad dash was on. We made it over to the other side just as the aircraft engines were shutting down.
I’m most grateful for the PGR members who were present at this welcome home, and we had three new faces among us. Doug Harper and Rusty Smith joined us…they are former employees of the WVANG. The other new face was Brenda Dane, a former PGR member from Louisiana, who will soon be joining our WV ranks. Brenda jumped right in and took charge until the rest of us could get on-scene. Also present were Bob “T-bone” Smith, Renee “The Queen Mother” Coleman, and RC Buddy “Pup” Palla.
1st Sgt Clower and others came by our honor line, to thank the PGR for their participation, and if you watch the Channel 8 news in the Charleston viewing area tonight, you may catch a glimpse of the WV PGR in action. We're so happy these heroes made it home safely, and we were honored to be among them today.
