WELCOME HOME 104TH CAV
HARRISBURG PA 23 NOV 08
Three flights of soldiers from the 104th CAV will be arriving in Harrisburg for demobilization after a deployment since NOV 2007. These soldiers will be arriving at Harrisburg International Airport over a span of approximately 2 hours on Sunday 23 NOV 08. The PGR has been asked to welcome these heroes home when they deplane and also to escort some to the Adamstown area where a celebration has been planned at the local VFW.
This will be a set mission consisting of a flag line at the terminal. Any member wishing to ride to Adamstown with the Southern Cruisers Riding Club are welcome to go.
Tentative Mission Plan:
Staging 1545 Fire house parking lot
Briefing 1600 depart for terminal immediately after briefing
Set Flag Line 1615
Due to FAA rules parking and access will be limited as follows:
General Public pay parking and enter through main entrance walkway, meet inside.
Fire house parking at control tower. Use right hand ramp at end of expressway, go to end of ramp and turn left at the control tower, park in long lot at firehouse.
NO PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED ANY PLACE ELSE!
We will walk as a group to the terminal and await the arrival of the soldiers. Bring your 3x5 flags and show these heroes that we will be there for them as they are there for us.
Due to security measures, the flight(s) time and number are not being released but will be known at briefing time. These soldiers will be released at the terminal and can be picked up by family and friends since all equipment and other logistics have been done at FT Lewis.
Ride Captain Don Chesbro chez26@verizon.net is charged with this mission and may be contacted for further info.

Our debt to the Heroic men and Valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid . They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices (President Harry S. Truman)
During these days of many trials and tribulations that our land of the free are facing, let us remember to hold our heads up high in remembrance for those who gave thier life for our freedom and those that are still in harms way for this cause. Pray for the brokenhearted and proclaim victory for those who are held captive. Lord, You are the light of the world and we declare You to be Lord over every nation. We know your light shines in darkness and the darkness does not always comprehend, but we also know You light will always prevail. Amen. Chaplin, Lorraine Richmond.

************************************Ride Report*****************************
If I said we planned a perfect mission I would be lying. We, being as flexible as only the Patriot Guard are, rolled with several changes of plans and pulled off a wonderful Welcome Home for the 104th CAV. Through an old friend that I haven't seen in over 20 years we were put on the tour buses and taken right out on the flight line so that we could set up our flag line planeside as the troops deplaned. All family and friends looked on from behind the fences. Between the Guard and the Southern Cruisers we had 32 personnel to welcome the troops home. We were right on time as the planes were running a little early. The first plane was landing as we pulled in on the bus so we just got off the bus and started lining up. Once the first plane of several hundred soldiers was empty we just got back on one of the busses to stay warm and tell stories. It was less than 25 minutes later the second plane landed with just as many troops on board. We quickly formed back up and did it all over again. We received many compliments and walked off the tarmac to the praise of all the family and friends that were waiting outside the gate. My hat's off to the wonderful people that turned out to welcome our heros home. Thank You - Chez |

| Chez and crew - the PRG looked good out there!
I arrived late (on call for work - timing left much to be desired!) missed the bus and couldn't get inside to the tarmac. If you saw a gal on the sidelines at the fence with Old Glory, that was me... t'was out there in spirit!
Actually, I think I had the "best seat in the house", so to speak. Standing outside the fence with the families, among those that have sacrificed their family life for the last year while their loved one was away, was moving. Up and down the row, you'd hear a squeal of a small voice "there's Daddy!" or "oh, there he is!!!!"... Fingers clinging to the chain link fence, faces pressed into the links to get just a better glimpse of the soldiers coming off the plane...their wait would soon be over.
I couldn't make the crew with the tarmac, but to stand with and talk to the families was an honor in itself.
104th CAV, welcome home!!! |
