Well, I spoke too soon. I have just received word that Sgt. Manasco's arrival will now be approximately 20 minutes later than planned. We will, however, maintain our staging and ride briefing schedules. There is a McDonald's and other establishments at the staging location for warmth and services while we wait.

22 Nov 2008 8:08 PM Alert
At about 3:00PM today, folks started rolling into the Country Faire Plaza shopping center in Grayslake to welcome home an American hero, Marine Sgt. Justin Manasco. There were old members; new members; family members; and other American patriots from the community. The Grayslake Police Department was there; the Grayslake Fire Department was there; and Sgt. Manasco's father-in-law was there... on a Triumph motorcycle that I believe is older than the Sergeant. We were a group of about fifty, twenty or so on bikes and the rest in vehicles.

Everyone arrived early or on time only to find out that Sergeant Manasco's flight was delayed. Everyone waited patiently, however, because we all understood that the Sergeant and his family had waited for this homecoming for four years. We all knew that our wait was irrelevant.

Sergeant Manasco arrived to hugs; handshakes, and words of thanks from every person there. The moment that he and his family had been waiting for had arrived...he was home. As we lined up for the escort, I got off my bike to check on the status of things at the rear. A man who was parked near us rolled down his window and asked what was going on. He was eating something in his car with his kids. When I told him that we were there to welcome home a Marine Sergeant, he dropped his food and jumped out of his car like he had been shot out of a cannon. He went over to Sergeant Manasco's vehicle and had a word with him, a word of heartfelt gratitude.

Underway, there was another moment of unexpected good will and patriotism. A Wildwood Towing operator, who had driven by and seen the activity, lit up his hook and blocked one of the intersections for us. Between the Grayslake Police Department; the Grayslake Fire Department; and Wildwood Towing we had safe passage to our destination. The Patriot Guard Riders and everyone else participating in today's mission thank all of them for their support.

We would also like to thank the family of Sgt. Manasco for inviting us to join them today, and Sgt. Manasco for his service to the United States of America. The Patriot Guard Riders wish him and his family all the best.
