Unfortunately the weather has been too wet to complete the foundation, so transport of the house will have to be rescheduled to a later date.
Updated 1 NOV 08 0238 edt S Sturgis
Confirmation has been received for phase II of the escort mission for November 11, 2008, of the new home for Jonathan Bartlett. The route will take us from the Virginia Beach Convention and Conference Center on 19th Street to the new lot at 2840 Lambert Trail, Chesapeake. This mission will take place immediately after the Veterans Day Parade at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach. Please monitor both this and the parade threads for updates. Mission Ride Captain is Bob "Cokesbury" Thurman, who may contacted by cell phone @ 536-0803. There are two possible scenarios for participation. One- Those individuals participating in the Veterans Day Parade will meet as scheduled. Our contingent will terminate at the VB conference center as originally scheduled. The home will be at the conference center, loaded and ready for transit to Chesapeake prior to the start of the parade. At the conclusion of our participation in the parade we will form up around the house, have a very short ride briefing and then escort the house to the lot. The escort route will be determined by the house moving company, the municipalities involved and local LEO. The final route will be discussed at the briefing. Anticipated itinerary: 7:30 AM wreath laying ceremony 8:00 AM stage for parade 9:00 AM parade start 10:00 AM PGR contingent assemble at VB convention center 10:15 AM KSU for home escort Two - Those individuals not participating in the parade, but would like to ride in the home escort. 9:30 AM stage at VB convention center, 19th Street 10:00 AM assemble with parade contingent for ride brief 10:15 AM KSU for home escort Watch the weather. As always, iron horses preferred; cages very welcome. Rig all bikes and cages with flags and banners. Be sure to rig for highway speeds and observe proper flag etiquette at all times. Our exact location in the escort is unknown at this time. We may lead, follow or split our numbers to ride in front and behind the house. Our position will be determined by the transport company based on their recommendation, comfort level and the safety of all involved. We do know Jonathan and his wife will be there for the escort and the placement of their new house. Obviously, our participation is limited to an escort for this phase of the mission. However, there may be an opportunity for us to assist at a later date in moving furniture, construction of a wheel chair ramp, etc. This is truly a unique opportunity for us to participate in two events on the same day. It is quite an honor to be able to pay tribute to our veterans from the past and then to participate even in a small way to the dreams of the future for a fine young man. If anyone would like to see the house it will be on display at the Fall Home and Remodeling show at the convention center from November 7 thru 9.

Special Escort for CPL Jonathan Bartlett - Martinsville, Va / Chesapeake, Va
Jonathan is the recipient of a Home from the Homes for Troops program.
DATE: Wednesday, October 22, 2008
STAGING TIME: 8:00AM: KSU 8:30AM (Start of Escort)
Please have tanks topped off before you arrive at the Jameson Inn.
We will be escorting Jonathan from the Jameson Inn to the Nationwide Custom Homes plant which is about 6 miles transit.
Jonathan’s platoon was attached to a unit conducting civil-military relations in a village outside Fallujah that had agreed to banish terrorists in exchange for assistance. As they were leaving the village, an IED exploded under his gun-truck.
The three other passengers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries; however, Jonathan was not as fortunate. The blast riddled his body with shrapnel and forced the amputation of one leg above and one below the knee.
Tidewater Builders Association and Tidewater Modular Homes are partnering with Homes for Our Troops to provide Jonathan a specially adapted home!
A final escort in the Hampton Rds area is scheduled for a later date. That element's mission info will be added as it is finalized.
I will be ride captain for the Martinsville portion.
If you have any questions please email me at Tony@DanRiverRegion.com
Please contact me if you can support this mission.
Respectfully
Tony Turner

Our debt to the Heroic men and Valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid . They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices (President Harry S. Truman)
During these days of many trials and tribulations that our land of the free are facing, let us remember to hold our heads up high in remembrance for those who gave thier life for our freedom and those that are still in harms way for this cause. Pray for the brokenhearted and proclaim victory for those who are held captive. Lord, You are the light of the world and we declare You to be Lord over every nation. Wanted to give everybody a little background info.
Many of you already realize this was intended to be a two-phase escort. The first phase went off without a hitch. Tony and his crew escorted Jonathan to the manufacturer to see his new home in the construction phase. After completion the house was then transported to Virginia Beach to be on display Nov 7-8-9 at the Fall Home Improvement Show at the Virginia Beach Conference Center.
Phase two of the plan was to remove the house from the Conference Center on Monday the 10th and have it loaded and ready for transport on the 11th. We (the PGR) would participate in the Veterans Day parade on the morning of the 11th, ending up at the Conference Center parking lot. From that point we would escort the home to the lot in Chesapeake where it would be placed on the foundation that had been prepared in advance. Unfortunately, phase two has been delayed. Despite the best efforts of some very dedicated people (thank you, Buddy and Donna), the site work and foundation will not be ready in time to set the house. Initially there were bureaucratic delays in attaining permits and then the rain set in making it impossible to complete the foundation.
So, we are on temporary hold until the weather clears and the foundation can be completed. Please continue to monitor this thread. We will post the revised escort information as soon as it is available. Thank you for your continued patience. |
