This is a Final ANC Mission Plan

LTC (ret) Philomena "Toni" Pagano, US Army, Bronze Star nurse, veteran of WWII & the Korean War, is to be laid to her eternal Hero's rest on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) on 04 December, 2008 at approximately 0900 hours from the ANC Administration Building. PGR will be there -  standing tall, silent and proud for this solemn service.

Stage:     0745 hrs    Iwo Jima Memorial (Marine Corps War Memorial)
Brief:       0800 hrs
Transit:    0810 hrs    to ANC Admin Bldg
Honors:   0900 hrs    Graveside ANC (time approx.)

Ride Captain:  Jim Furr  (540) 454-0629  cell

Iron Horses preferred, cages welcome as always.
Mounted large flags preferred for transit (furl upon ANC parking).

Large hand-held flags NOT used in ANC for burial services.
Military mandated ID / gear NOT required for this mission.

Remember we are here to honor the Hero and family, friends, and comrades-in-arms, and to stand tall, silent and proud.  If you cannot join us, please set aside a moment of silence at the appointed hour, to reflect on their sacrifice.

From the family:

Lt. Colonel Philomena 'Toni' Pagano, retired U.S. Army, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008. She was 92.

A resident of St. Mary Manor in Lansdale, CT for the past 16 years, she was previously a resident of Bridgeport, CT

After graduating from the former Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing in Norristown, Ms. Pagano joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in March 1940. She served at Walter Reed, Fitzsimmons, Letterman, and Brooke General Hospitals stateside and overseas in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Europe (during WWII and with the Army of Occupation), Hawaii, Japan and Korea.  As chief nurse with the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M.A.S.H.) 8076th Army Unit during the Korean War, she earned the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.

Col. Pagano ended her Army career serving as Chief of Nursing Service first at Fort Detrick, MD and then at Fort Polk, LA.  For her efforts in reactivating the hospital at Fort Polk, she was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.  While serving in the Army, Pagano continued her education, earning a B.S. in nursing and an M.A. in education from Incarnate Word College. 

Upon her retirement, she returned to Bridgeport and devoted herself to parish and community work.  She served as secretary for the Bridgeport Board of Health, was active as a volunteer aide and taught nursing assistants at Sacred Heart Hospital in Norristown.  In 1971, she obtained an M.L.S. from Villanova University to provide a librarian for the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel School.  She coordinated the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial activities for Bridgeport and served as chairman of the committee that prepared a town history, which led to another lifelong interest of hers. In 1987, at the age of 72, she was awarded the Golden Deeds Award of the Norristown Exchange Club.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of LTC (ret) Philomena 'Toni' Pagano.

'No Greater Love is this that a man is willing to lay down his life for another.' Only two men were willing to sacrifice their lives for us-Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. Neither of which can ever fully be repaid.

Thank you for your Service and my Freedoms. Your sacrifices will never go unnoticed. I am grateful to live in a country made up of volunteers like you. Your choice to protect our Nation and put your self on the line can never be repaid.
